He finished an internship and general surgery training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences before completing his orthopaedic surgery training in 1990, with a focus on total joint replacement, back and sports injuries, and trauma, at the University of Virginia Medical School, where he was also chief resident in orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Guterman has also received a fellowship studying bone and joint abnormalities. His research has resulted in numerous publications, presentations, and awards.
As a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Dr. Guterman stays active in his field. He is president of the Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, and he is the CEO of the Piccard Surgery Center in Maryland.
Dr. Guterman’s overarching philosophy is to listen to each patient and understand the unique needs of every individual, provide compassionate care, and devise a personalized treatment plan to achieve optimal health.
Dr. Guterman resides with his beloved wife and their three sons in Potomac, Maryland. As dynamic members of the community, Dr. Guterman and his wife, Barbara, participate in numerous philanthropic endeavors and special needs youth-related groups and activities, including the Autism Speaks Bike to the Beach, KEEN (Kids Enjoy Exercise Now) Greater DC, and Bullis School Athletics.
Dr. Guterman is an avid cyclist, athlete, and runner. He’s especially interested in the prevention and treatment of sports-related injuries and the pivotal role of exercise in enhancing overall health and wellness.
David M. Smink, MD, FAAOS, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in sports injuries at Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, PA, in Silver Spring, GermanTown, and Rockville, Maryland. He actively pursues the latest information and techniques in his field to bring his patients top-of-the-line, successful care.
Before joining the team at Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group in 2005, Dr. Smink graduated with honors from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. There, he was captain and MVP of the hockey team. He also earned the Manstein Family Award for excellence in pre-medical studies and athletics. He then attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland. There, he served as vice president of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society.
After finishing his education, Dr. Smink received specialty training in orthopaedic surgery as chief resident at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. Then, he moved to Massachusetts for a sports medicine fellowship at Harvard University Massachusetts General Hospital. It was during this fellowship that he was a team physician for the New England Patriots, the Boston Bruins, and the athletic teams at Harvard University.
At Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, Dr. Smink frequently treats athletic injuries for adults and youth. He often performs joint replacements and arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder.
When he isn’t at any of the three clinics, Dr. Smink loves to coach youth hockey teams in the area.
Karly Lorbeer, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon practicing at Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, PA, with locations in Silver Spring, Germantown, and Rockville, Maryland. In addition to general orthopaedics, she specializes in the treatment of conditions of the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder.
Dr. Lorbeer received her bachelor's degree from the University of Florida and her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. She then completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Following residency, Dr. Lorbeer underwent fellowship training in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Lorbeer specializes in operative and non-operative management of all conditions related to the hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, and shoulder, including injuries, arthritis conditions, nerve compression syndromes, and tendonitis. Korboi N. Evans, MD, MS, FAAOS, is an industrious and caring board-certified Orthopaedic surgeon and joint replacement specialist. Dr. Evans provides personalized Orthopaedic care at the Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group, with three locations in Silver Spring, Germantown, and Rockville, Maryland. He specializes in sports medicine, robotic joint replacement, joint preservation surgery of the hip, knee, and shoulder, minimally invasive anterior hip replacement, and arthroscopic treatment of knee and shoulder injuries.
Dr. Evans received his undergraduate degree from the University of Akron in Ohio and completed his master’s degree and his medical degree at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 2005. He completed his medical residency in 2011 at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington and in 2017, he received a fellowship from the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopaedics in Maryland, where he underwent advanced training in joint replacement surgery.
Dr. Evans has significant experience as an orthopaedic surgeon in both civilian and military settings. He deployed to Afghanistan where he served as commander of a forward surgical team and a combat support hospital.
At the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Dr. Evans was closely involved in caring for wounded warriors returning from Afghanistan and Iraq — a unique experience that enhanced his medical practice and solidified his commitment to providing compassionate and comprehensive orthopaedic care. He is a proud advocate for veterans and military families.
Recognized for his hard work and contributions to the medical field, Dr. Evans has won several honors and awards. He has served as an assistant professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University and published a number of valuable scientific articles related to the management of musculoskeletal conditions and the medical care of those injured in combat.
Dr. Evans is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Academy of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Evans has extensive experience providing direct anterior hip replacements, robotic hip and knee replacements, platelet-rich plasma therapy, and more. He is highly adept in minimally invasive, muscle sparing anterior hip replacement to promote a faster and smoother recovery.
Dr. Evans incorporates the latest state-of-the-art technology in the form of robotics, computer navigation, and patient-specific instruments to ensure superior accuracy and results. For Dr. Evans, the patient always comes first.
Victor Wowk, MD, FAAOS, MPH, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who has been an active member of the local orthopaedic community for over twenty-five years. He provides comprehensive orthopaedic care at the Rockville, Silver Spring, and Germantown, Maryland, locations of Greater Washington Orthopaedic Group PA.
Dr. Wowk’s surgical expertise and interest are in sports medicine and arthritis of the knee. He performs arthroscopic surgery of the knee, total and partial knee replacement, and prosthetic knee revision surgery. Dr. Wowk is certified in computer-navigated total and partial knee replacement surgery as well as in cartilage preservation surgery. In addition, he offers non-operative treatments for knee arthritis.
Dr. Wowk is a Minnesota native and completed both his Bachelor of Science degree and his Master’s degree in Public Health at the University of Minnesota. As a student at the University, he was a state champion squash player. He completed his medical education at the Medical College of Wisconsin and received his orthopedic training at the University of Maryland.
During his orthopaedic residency at the University of Maryland, Dr. Wowk received extensive training at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where he also served as chief resident. Dr. Wowk went on to treat traumatic orthopaedic injuries at Suburban, Holy Cross Silver Spring, Washington Adventist, and Shady Grove Adventist hospitals for many years.
Following his residency training, Dr. Wowk completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Joseph Torg. He presented numerous scientific papers at national meetings during his postgraduate training. Dr. Wowk initially practiced orthopaedics in Central Pennsylvania, where he took care of the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners AAA affiliate teams before coming to the Washington, D.C. area in 1992.
Dr. Wowk is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He holds membership with the Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine and other state and local societies.
Dr. Wowk currently performs surgery at Shady Grove Hospital, Suburban Hospital, and Holy Cross Hospitals in Silver Spring and Germantown. In his free time, he enjoys swimming and is an avid gardener. Dr. Wowk also speaks Spanish, Ukrainian, and Russian.
