Matthew J. Gargulinski, DO, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon who has been practicing in California since 2007. As a child, Dr. Flemming spent his days off school at his mother’s workplace, a chiropractor’s office on the south side of Chicago. He joined Coastal Ortho in 2015 because of their reputation in the South Bay for caring so much about their patients. Dr. John Stratton, a founding partner of the practice in 1971, was also one of his role models.

Dr. Stephenson pursued orthopedics after becoming injured during his freshman year of college. As an NCAA Division I water polo player and swimmer, he was eager to return to athletics after the incident. Brian Magovern, MD, joined Coastal Ortho as an orthopedic surgeon in 2012. He joined the practice in El Segundo and Torrance, California, to treat patients in modern, state-of-the-art facilities with a high-speed open MRI machine and a full physical, hand, and aquatic therapy department.

While completing his internship in surgery at UC San Francisco, Dr. Magovern realized that this very specialized field — which often involves puzzle-like reconstructing of several broken bone pieces — was exactly what he wanted to do and that he was excellent at it. 

He followed his internship with a residency at Loyola University Chicago, then a fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Kristofer J. Jones is a board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in sports-related musculoskeletal injuries of the knee, shoulder and elbow. As a former intercollegiate athlete, Dr. Jones understands the unique demands and concerns faced by athletes at all levels of participation (from professional to recreational) and his goal is to return patients back to their regular activities using evidence-based medicine to guide his treatment plan. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago, where he was a four-year letter winner and All-Conference tailback for the varsity football team. He was awarded the Howell-Murray Alumni Medal upon graduation. He received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he received the Jonathan Rhoads Prize for Surgical Scholarship. Dr. Jones completed his orthopaedic residency training at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City, frequently recognized as the #1 Hospital for Orthopaedic Surgery by US News & World Report.
