John F. Flemming, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Coastal Ortho with offices in El Segundo and Torrance, California. He joined the team in 2017 because he was impressed by how the practice built a reputation of trust, respect, and empathy that aligns with his values.
As a child, Dr. Flemming spent his days off school at his mother’s workplace, a chiropractor’s office on the south side of Chicago. He followed the doctor, noticing that he was always kind, informative, and adored by his patients. This inspired him to want to make that kind of impact someday. Dr. Fleming ultimately chose to specialize in orthopedic spine surgery because of its unique and profound capacity to improve the lives of his patients.
Born in Chicago, Dr. Flemming graduated from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. During his surgical training, he sought new challenges around every bend because he knew it would eventually pay off for his patients.
Today, he is trained in a relatively new form of minimally invasive spine surgery called the MidLIF (Midline Lumbar Interbody Fusion). It utilizes advanced imaging during the operation to decrease incision size and minimize the amount of internal surgery necessary to achieve spinal fusion.
Dr. Fleming also has advanced training in the side-body incision technique of Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion, which avoids dissecting large amounts of muscles from the back. These options are combined with traditional open surgery to find the best-fit operation for each individual.
He also invests his time in research and intraoperative and clinical teaching for the orthopedic residents at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
When not working, you can find him paddle boarding, cycling, hiking, and enjoying the beach community. He also attends Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and is thankful for his community.
Even with such specialized surgical training and experience, Dr. Fleming believes in first looking at all options and tailoring a specific treatment plan for each patient.
Kenneth K. Park, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon. He treats patients at Coastal Ortho with offices in El Segundo and Torrance, California. At the practice, Dr. Park and his fellow surgeons are committed to giving the absolute best to their patients
Dr. Park is the South Bay's most prominent foot and ankle surgeon. He is also chair of the Orthopaedic Department at Torrance Memorial Hospital in Torrance, California.
Dr. Park has a broad range of experience in complex foot and ankle surgery, a specialty he expertly brings to patients of all backgrounds. He treats ankle pain and instability, cartilage injury, bunions, stiff/painful big toe, ankle and foot deformity, arthritis, tendon inflammation and tears, stress fractures, knee meniscal tears, and bursitis.
Dr. Park is also qualified to treat adult and pediatric general orthopedic trauma (fractures/injuries of upper and lower extremities). He has successfully used newer treatments, such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, as an alternative to surgical intervention for several years.
Dr. Park's own lifelong athletic pursuits cultivated his passion as an orthopedic surgeon. The Southern California native is a veteran body boarder and was an NCAA Division I UCLA tennis player who brings an athlete's commitment to his patients' treatment and recovery. This understanding of competitive sports and his outstanding surgical skills are why he has successfully treated many high-level athletes and professional dancers back to competition-level performance.
Dr. Park is a well-regarded physician with deep compassion and understanding for his patients. His skills were honed at the world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery, consistently ranked the #1 orthopedic hospital in the country.
Todd A. Shrader, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon serving patients at Coastal Ortho in Torrance, California.
During the four years he played collegiate soccer, Dr. Shrader witnessed more athletic injuries than most people do in a lifetime. The doctors who treated his fellow athletes during that time inspired him to help his patients overcome pain and regain function.
He developed this commitment even deeper during a high-profile fellowship at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic, where he routinely treated players from the MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, and
IMSL, focusing on arthroscopic procedures of the shoulder and knee.
Dr. Shrader uses only the most leading-edge, minimally invasive surgical techniques, including the unique direct anterior approach for total hip arthroplasty (replacement). This approach uses a small incision and preserves hip muscles and tendons, allowing a quicker recovery.
Dr. Shrader's knee replacement surgery techniques include partial and total knee replacement through a subvastus approach, which avoids cutting into the quadriceps tendon. Patients of all ages benefit because these procedures significantly reduce their recovery time, pain, and scarring.
Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Shrader takes advantage of the area's outdoor activities whenever he can. He surfs, bikes, or jogs with his dogs nearly every day and loves to cycle.
Coastal Ortho was the perfect fit for Dr. Shrader because he gets to share his passions with patients who love the South Bay as much as he does
Glen J. Huber, MD, is one of the region's most demanded hip arthroscopy, shoulder, and knee surgeons. He works at Coastal Ortho, located in El Segundo and Torrance, California.
Using the most advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques such as hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopy, and hip, knee, and shoulder arthroplasty, Dr. Huber brings his patients back to health along the best possible paths.
He is the only experienced hip arthroscopist in the South Bay who performs hip arthroscopy and arthroscopic labral tear repair (hip cartilage repair surgery). He also stays at the forefront of emerging treatments, such as orthopedic biologics, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, and stem cell therapy.
Dr. Huber volunteers at Mira Costa High School football games and is a courtside physician for the AVP professional volleyball tour. He loves to ski, surf, and play beach volleyball. He lives with his wife and three daughters in the South Bay.
That South Bay lifestyle and working with an extraordinarily talented group of surgeons is why Dr. Huber considers Coastal Ortho a great place to practice orthopedic medicine.
Nicholas M. Halikis, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with a certified specialization in hand and upper extremity surgery. He is a founder and the managing partner of Coastal Ortho, formerly known as Torrance Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Group, with offices in El Segundo and Torrance, California.
Dr. Halikis earned his doctoral degree and completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. In 1993, he completed his upper extremity surgery fellowship at the prestigious University of Florida Hand.
He is trained in all aspects of operative and non-operative upper extremity care, including carpal tunnel syndrome and other nerve conditions of the upper extremity, trauma, arthritis, tumors, tendonitis issues such as trigger finger, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, and more.
He remains active in numerous medical organizations, including the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the California Orthopedic Association.
Dr. Halikis is the former Chief of Surgery and Orthopedics at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center Torrance and has been recognized by peers as one of the top doctors in Los Angeles.
He is an active member and sits on the boards of several philanthropic and business organizations. He embraces the local South Bay lifestyle by enjoying the region's surfing, skiing, beach volleyball, and basketball.
Dr. Halikis is also an accomplished guitarist who especially enjoys treating fellow musicians with hand and upper extremity conditions.
Avreeta Singh, MD, is an orthopedic hand and upper extremity surgery specialist at Coastal Ortho with offices in El Segundo and Torrance, California. She is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in treating a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, Dupuytren's disease, trigger finger, fractures, sports-related injuries, and more
Dr. Singh strives to provide every patient with complete and accurate information regarding their condition or diagnosis so they can make educated decisions regarding their treatment.
Dr. Singh completed her bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Davis, and earned her medical degree at the University of California Davis School of Medicine in Sacramento. She served as an orthopedic surgery resident for five years at the UC Davis Medical Center, where she earned the Reno Orthopaedic Trauma Award and the Orthopaedic Resident of the Year Award. Dr. Singh also fulfilled a hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at Harvard.
In addition to her education, Dr. Singh co-authored numerous publications and research. She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and speaks Punjabi and Spanish.
Dr. Singh enjoys riding her cruiser along the strand, beach volleyball, and baking.
Brian Magovern, MD, joined Coastal Ortho as an orthopedic surgeon in 2012. He joined the practice in El Segundo and Torrance, California, to treat patients in modern, state-of-the-art facilities with a high-speed open MRI machine and a full physical, hand, and aquatic therapy department.
While completing his internship in surgery at UC San Francisco, Dr. Magovern realized that this very specialized field — which often involves puzzle-like reconstructing of several broken bone pieces — was exactly what he wanted to do and that he was excellent at it.
He followed his internship with a residency at Loyola University Chicago, then a fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Since 2008, his position as the Chief of Shoulder & Elbow Surgery at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center has given him thousands of opportunities to use his education, skills, and intensive training.
Dr. Magovern is known in particular throughout the South Bay and Los Angeles area for performing these and other complicated procedures: shoulder replacement, elbow replacement, complex humeral/scapular fracture care, complex elbow trauma care, and complex elbow instability repair.
He is adept in the operating room, and his patients have positive outcomes as a result. He stays current with the latest medical advances and imparts this knowledge by regularly giving lectures and teaching medical students at Harbor-UCLA.
Dr. Magovern was born on the East Coast and received his Doctorate of Medicine from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., where he met his wife. The two of them were drawn to the South Bay’s sense of community, small-town feel, and amazing weather, so they decided to pursue their careers and raise their family here.
Dr. Magovern and his wife enjoy skiing together as a family. To stay in shape, he swims several times a week.
