About Qasim M. Husain, MD

Dr. Qasim M. Husain is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon at the Orthocenter. He received advanced training in the surgical and non-surgical management of the entire range of spinal disorders from degenerative conditions to complex spinal deformity. About Nader A. Bakhos, MD

Dr. Larry Bloomstein received his Medical Degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Following graduation

Dr. Bloomstein completed his Orthopaedic Residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. During residency Dr. Bloomstein’s training included Pediatric Orthopaedics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Orthopaedic Trauma at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ. 

Following Residency, Dr. Bloomstein completed his first Fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at the University of Tennessee Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN. During his Fellowship, Dr. Bloomstein was part of a relief mission to help the earthquake victims in Haiti in 2010. In a five-day period, the team of eight orthopaedic surgeons operated on over fifty patients who survived the earthquake. The surgical team was able to perform numerous surgeries to restore the patients to an independent level of functioning.

Dr. Bloomstein completed a second Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in the specialty of Foot & Ankle. About Robert Borzio, MD

Robert Borzio, MD, is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in computer-navigated, minimally invasive anterior approach total hip and knee replacements and revisions. Dr. Borzio also provides general orthopaedic care and treatment of fractures in the upper and lower extremities.

Born and raised in the Middletown NJ area and former Eagle Scout, Dr. Borzio received his Medical Degree from New Jersey Medical School Rutgers, where he graduated with the distinction of acceptance into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN Dr. Mulholland went on to complete his medical education at the Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. After receiving his M.D. degree, Dr. Mulholland completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. As a member of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Dr. Mulholland strives to go above and beyond industry standards for his patients.

About Steven P. Lisser, MD

Dr. Steven Lisser is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon at Orthocenter who specializes in Hand, Shoulder, and Elbow Surgery, as well as Sports Medicine. Dr. Lisser is passionate about his field, with special interests that include rotator cuff disease, ligament reconstruction, reconstructive microsurgery, arthroscopy, endoscopic carpal tunnel release, and shoulder cuff disease.

Dr. Lisser earned his Medical Degree and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. He then completed a Hand, Elbow and Microsurgery Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. After that, Dr. Lisser completed a Shoulder Surgery Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania.

Douglas Navasartian, MD, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon at Orthocenter, which has locations in Red Bank, Morganville, Eatontown, and Holmdel, New Jersey. He has completed subspecialty fellowship training in orthopaedic sports medicine. 

Dr. Navasartian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in general biology and a Master of Science degree in biology from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Navasartian then completed medical school at the State University of New York in Stony Brook. Following medical school, he completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey, one of the oldest residency programs in the state. Through his residency, he spent time training at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, as well as UMDNJ Newark. This allowed him to obtain well-rounded training in numerous aspects of orthopaedic surgery.

Dr. Navasartian then went on to complete subspecialty fellowship training in Sports Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine. During his fellowship, he was trained by one of the pioneers and founders of modern shoulder arthroscopy, Dr. Stephen Burkhart, MD. Dr. Burkhart invented many of the tools and techniques used in shoulder arthroscopy, and Dr. Navasartian is proud to have had him as a mentor. Because of his training with Dr. Burkhart, Dr. Navasartian is very well-versed in treating some of the most complex shoulder problems using arthroscopic techniques. 

Additionally, Dr. Navasartian is trained in complex knee surgery, including arthroscopic and open techniques. About Jeffrey T. Van Gelderen, MD

Dr. Jeffrey Van Gelderen is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon caring for patients at Orthocenter. Dr. Van Gelderen specializes in the treatment of sports injuries and performs Arthroscopic and Reconstructive Surgery of the Shoulder, Hip, and Knee. His clinical focus includes Joint Preservation procedures for patients who want to maintain an active lifestyle.

A New Jersey native, Dr. Van Gelderen graduated from Holmdel High School in Monmouth County. After graduating magna cum laude from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., he returned home to receive his Medical Degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, NJ. Dr. Van Gelderen then completed his Orthopaedic Residency at New York University’s Hospital for Joint Disease. Following residency, he received an additional year of Fellowship training in Sports Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Medical Center. During his Fellowship, Dr. Van Gelderen served as assistant team physician for a number for variety of National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I athletes from nearby colleges and universities.

About Larry Bloomstein, MD

A native of Livingston NJ, Dr. Larry Bloomstein is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon who brings a unique set of skills and highly specialized knowledge to Orthocenter.

Dr. Larry Bloomstein received his Medical Degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Following graduation

Dr. Bloomstein completed his Orthopaedic Residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ. During residency Dr. Bloomstein’s training included Pediatric Orthopaedics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Orthopaedic Trauma at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ. 

Following Residency, Dr. Bloomstein completed his first Fellowship in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at the University of Tennessee Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN. During his Fellowship, Dr. Bloomstein was part of a relief mission to help the earthquake victims in Haiti in 2010. In a five-day period, the team of eight orthopaedic surgeons operated on over fifty patients who survived the earthquake. The surgical team was able to perform numerous surgeries to restore the patients to an independent level of functioning.

Dr. Bloomstein completed a second Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in the specialty of Foot & Ankle. He shadowed several pioneers in Total Ankle Replacement and other joint sparing surgeries in the treatment of foot and ankle disorders. Dr. Bloomstein offers both surgical and non-surgical options for foot and ankle issues such as bunions, hammertoes, ankle sprains, arthritis, flatfoot, and Achilles tendon pain. •

Given his extensive experience in Orthopaedic trauma, Dr. Bloomstein also specializes in the management of fractures in upper and lower extremities. Nicholas Szwaba, DPM, provides wound care and foot surgery to patients at Richmond Podiatry Associates in the Eltingville neighborhood of Staten Island, New York. 

Dr. Szwaba is a Staten Island local who now is serving the Staten Island community as a physician. He attended New York College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his residency at Northwell Staten Island University Hospital undergoing extensive training in forefoot, rearfoot, ankle reconstructive surgery, and limb salvage procedures. During his final year of residency, he served as chief resident. 

Dr. Szwaba continued his education and training by completing an additional yearlong fellowship following his residency due to his interest in wound care. He completed his wound care fellowship at NYC HHC Coney Island Hospital. During his time at NYC HHC Coney Island, he obtained advanced training in wound care techniques and limb salvage procedures.

Dr. Szwaba is board-certified through the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. In addition, he has attending privileges at both Northwell Staten Island University Hospital and Richmond University Medical Center. Dr. Nicholas Szwaba is able to provide house calls and emergency consultations. 

Jason Jolliffe, DPM, DABPM is a podiatrist with comprehensive training in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery. Dr. Jolliffe specializes in treating a wide range of foot and ankle pathologies, both surgically and conservatively. 

Dr. Jolliffe’s area of focus includes bunions, hammertoes, sports medicine, minimally invasive surgery techniques, wound care, limb salvage, and trauma and ankle replacement surgery. He is a proud New Jersey native committed to providing his patients with the highest level of care. 

After earning his Bachelor of Arts from Swarthmore College, Dr. Jolliffe continued his education at Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He later completed his residency at Morristown Medical Center, New Jersey’s top-ranked hospital. In his third year, he served as chief resident and completed multiple certifications. These certifications included the prestigious Baltimore Limb Deformity Course and the ACFAS Arthroscopy Course of the Foot and Ankle. 

He is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and an Associate member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. 

In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, watching movies, golfing, and spending time with his wife and golden retriever.

Matt Jensen is an empathetic professional dedicated to bringing relief to patients through the broad range of safe and minimally-invasive pain management options currently available in the field.

Jensen understands the challenges that injuries and chronic pain can cause more than some would know. Growing up in Oakland he played basketball and baseball as a teen and sustained a number of injuries, including a broken ankle and stress fractures in his lower back, he was on the patient side of the health care relationship. This eventually underwent successful surgery on his ankle. “I got introduced to the field of medicine, orthopedic surgery and pain management during that time and have so much respect for the practice and its practitioners, because I saw that you can get injured but then recover and be back to full functionality under the supervision of skilled doctors and physical therapists.”

Since graduating from The College of New Jersey in 2018 with a degree in Health and Exercise Science and the New York Institute of Technology in Old Westbury, Long Island in May with an MS in Physician Assistant Studies, Jensen is using his positive past experience as a patient to inform his approach to his own patients. “I had a great experience and got excellent care,” he said. “Similarly, I want to put my patients first and provide the best care possible.”

In his role as a PA at Garden State Pain & Orthopedics, is important but when he’s not caring for patients, Jensen remains an avid sportsman. “I enjoy playing basketball with my friends and working out, and I’m also getting married this fall, so I spend a lot of time with my fiancée,” he said.
