Lars Carlson, OD, co-founded Gold Canyon Eye Center in 2008 with his partner, Trina Cheng, OD. He moved to Arizona from Illinois in 2005 to escape the cold and build his optometry practice, and he’s been in Gold Canyon ever since.
Dr. Carlson graduated with honors from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan, with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He went on to study at the Michigan College of Optometry, also in Big Rapids, where he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree, again graduating with honors.
Experienced in providing comprehensive eye care, including eye exams, diagnosing eye disease, and fitting contact lenses and prescribing glasses. Dr. Carlson has a particular passion for specialty contact lenses that can treat complex eye conditions. Nancy Lo, OD, is an expert optometrist at Montrose Eye Care in Houston, Texas. She grew up in Katy, Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. She received her Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston where she was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, the Optometric Honor Society, and graduated magna cum laude.
During her specialty clinical rotations at the San Diego Naval Hospital and Cedar Springs Clinic in Dallas, she was able to provide contact lens fittings and diagnose and treat many anterior and posterior segment ocular diseases for our special armed forces and Dallas’ indigent population, respectively. Dr. Lo has also participated in See to Succeed for the past 6 years, providing full comprehensive exams and corrective eyewear to school children in Houston area schools along with the help of her fellow colleagues.
Dr. Lo is board certified in the treatment and management of ocular disease and state board certified as a glaucoma specialist. She is also a member of the American Optometric Associate and Texas Optometric Association.
Dr. Lo currently lives in Houston and spends her free time hanging out with her rescue senior dog Leo, doing yoga, and taking care of her many (hundred) houseplants.
Saly Elias, OD, is a compassionate optometrist practicing at Michigan Eye and Contacn Lens.
Dr. Elias is originally from Windsor, Ontario, and graduated from Wayne State University in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in biology and minor in health and nutrition science. Upon completion of her undergraduate degree, she was accepted into Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago and graduated with her Doctor of Optometry in May 2018. During her final year of optometry school, she had the opportunity to work with low vision patients to help the legally blind with daily activities using telescopes and magnifiers, specialty contact lenses to treat diseases such as keratoconus.
During her rotations, Dr. Elias also had the opportunity to work at John Dingell VA hospital in Michigan and Lake City VA hospital in Florida. Working with many veterans, she became knowledgeable and proficient in diagnosing and treating dry eye disease, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and many more ocular diseases.

Since 2000, Dr. Kevin Gunnerson has had the pleasure of serving the community of Moberly, Missouri, helping ensure that his patients receive the best care for their visual health. Dr. Gunnerson practices comprehensive eye care, from routine eye exams to diagnosis, management, and treatment of chronic and acute diseases of the visual system.
From degenerative conditions, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, to problems with dry eyes or red eye, Dr. Gunnerson’s scope of services offers his patients a wide range of treatment options, as well as preventive care. As part of his standard of care, Dr. Gunnerson is equipped with the latest technology, including a retinal camera and wavefront refraction phoropter.
Dr. Gunnerson started his medical journey at the University of Nebraska in Kearney, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1992. He went on to graduate from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Elkins Park with his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997.
After earning his degrees, Dr. Gunnerson went on to accumulate considerable experience in his specialty, serving in the United States Army as an optometrist. Dr. Gunnerson spent over 28 years helping American military personnel across the world with vision problems, including a deployment to Iraq.
Because of his many years spent in service to the United States, Dr. Gunnerson enjoys working with veterans of all services, in addition to his patients in the Moberly community.

Dr. Tiffany Zair-Yalda graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2010 after receiving her bachelors from Oakland University in health sciences. Dr. Zair-Yalda is one of the few providers in Michigan that fit using EyePrint Prosthetics and has trained extensively in fitting medically-necessary contact lenses in toddlers and infants. Dr. Zair-Yalda takes pride in helping each of her patients to see as clearly as possible. Dr. Zair-Yalda not only fits speciality lenses, she also provides comprehensive eye exams, diabetic eye exams, diagnoses and treats glaucoma, macular degeneration and dry eye. Dr. Zair-Yalda is a member of the Michigan Optometric Association and American Optometric Association..
Dr. Layne Hashimoto partnered with Dr. Timothy Lee when they opened the Eye Care Center of Kauai in 2007. Since then patients of all ages have come to rely on Dr. Hashimoto’s compassionate care and expertise in a range of medical and surgical eye care services, including refractive surgery and vision therapy.
Dr. Hashimoto was born and raised on Kauai, where he graduated from Kauai High School before temporarily leaving the island to attend Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. After graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Visual Science, he earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University College of Optometry, then went on to complete externships in primary care, ocular disease, refractive surgery, vision therapy, and contact lenses.
Dr. Hashimoto worked for the Heritage Vision Center in Beaverton, Oregon, until he decided it was time to return home to Kauai. He joined Dr. Timothy Lee as part of the Kauai Medical Clinic in 2003, then they decided to go into private practice and opened the Eye Care Center of Kauai.
When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Hashimoto enjoys spending time with his wife, Lindsay, and their 3 children, Lauryn, Brooke, and Blake. He’s an avid sports fan who loves playing golf, basketball, and tennis.

Dr. Stacey Morinaga provides expert eye care to patients of all ages at the Eye Care Center of Kauai, in Lihue, Hawaii, but she specializes in treating pediatric and geriatric patients. Dr. Morinaga is an expert in fitting a wide range of patients with specialty contact lenses, including those with keratoconus and corneal transplants.
Dr. Morinaga graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. She also received training at the Portland and Lowell Veterans Hospitals.
In her spare time, Dr. Morinaga enjoys the outdoor lifestyle of Hawaii by hiking, running, and paddleboarding. She also enjoys working at her family’s restaurant, Kiibo. Dr. Morinaga lives in Lihue with her husband and three miniature dachshunds.

While at ICO, she traveled with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity on a medical mission trip to Oaxaca, Mexico to help serve different villages within Oaxaca with eye care.
Dr. Rafi has a strong passion for optometry and providing comprehensive eye care. This led her to pursue a postdoctoral residency in Primary Eye Care with an emphasis on anterior segment disease and specialty contact lenses at Henry Ford OptimEyes in West Bloomfield, MI. She has a particular interest in keratoconus and has found a drive and passion for fitting scleral and rigid permeable contact lenses.
