Early in her medical training, Dr. Kiesau a Pediactric Ophthalmologist was struck by how invaluable ophthalmology can be in deciphering clues to understand a patient’s systemic issues. Furthermore, she was also fascinated by the intricacies of the eyes and expanse of possible diagnoses which are centered in the optic part of the central nervous system. She specializes in pediatric care and surgery.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Dr. Kiesau completed her residency at Northwestern followed by a Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus fellowship at Children’s Memorial Hospital, now known as Lurie Children’s Hospital. Today, she is a Faculty Instructor at Northwestern University.
Dr. Kiesau is trained in the treatment of strabismus for children as well as adults. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. Her areas of expertise include treatment of tear duct obstructions, amblyopia management, and diagnosis and surgical treatment of strabismus. Dr. Kiesau is fluent in Russian.

Stroger Hospital of Cook County in Chicago, Illinois. Building upon his residency, he pursued specialized fellowships to hone his skills further. He completed a prestigious uveitis fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye Research and Surgery Institution in Waltham, delving deep into the intricacies of ocular inflammation.
Driven by his commitment to excellence, Dr. Lamba embarked on a comprehensive 2-year fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at the Foundation for Retinal Research in New Orleans, Louisiana. Here, he gained invaluable expertise in diagnosing and treating conditions affecting the retina and vitreous, ensuring the best possible outcomes for his patients.

Dr. Meyers joined Retina Consultants after academic appointments at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and the University of Chicago and was also a Senior Staff Ophthalmologist at the National Eye Institute. He served in the U. S. Navy Medical Corps where he served as a Battalion Surgeon with the U.S. Marines. His clinical interests include diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration.

Michael J. Shapiro, MD, was born in Chicago and is a retina specialist at Retina Consultants Ltd., with offices in Des Plaines, Libertyville, Elgin, Lisle, Hickory Hills and Wilmette, Illinois. He has over 35 years of experience and is affiliated with numerous hospitals, including Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, IL.
Dr. Shapiro’s areas of special expertise include pediatric retina, complex retinal detachment, genetic retinal detachment syndromes, coloboma, retinoblastoma, retinal surgery, eye pain, diabetic retinopathy, retinopathy of prematurity, vitrectomy, and macular degeneration. Complex cases and cases unresponsive to usual retinal surgery in adults and children are his special focuses.
Dr. Shapiro graduated in 1983 from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed an internship at St. Joseph Hospital in Chicago and his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago. His fellowship was completed at Harvard University, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary with Dr. Charles Schepens, Dr. Hal Freeman, and Retina Associates. Dr. Shapiro spent 17 years as full-time faculty at UIC. He was Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, and Director of the Eye Trauma Services and Retinoblastoma treatment group at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He then joined Retina Consultants, Ltd.
Dr. Shapiro has been the Chicago Center principal investigator for several key clinical trials for the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity. He has also been invited to speak internationally on retinopathy of prematurity and pediatric retinal diseases. He has edited two books, contributed many chapters, and authored more than 100 scientific articles. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Life Fellow of American Academy of Ophthalmology (FAAO). Dr. Shapiro is also a member of the Association of Pediatric Retina Specialists, the International Congress-Ocular Oncology, and the ISERG.
Dr. Shapiro is known for his kind bedside manner and his compassion. For his efforts, Vitals (vitals.com) awarded him the 2015 Compassionate Doctor Recognition. In 2015, 2016, and 2017, Vitals honored him with their Patients’ choice Award.
Saira Khanna MD is a board-certified medical and surgical retina specialist at Retina Consultants Ltd. Dr. Khanna earned her undergraduate degree in Neurobiology with minors in Spanish and Economics at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She attended the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health for medical school. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the University of Chicago and continued her medical training in vitreoretinal surgery, completing her fellowship at The Retina Institute in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Khanna's areas of expertise include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, uveitis, and other retinal pathologies. In her free time, Dr. Khanna enjoys playing tennis/pickleball, eating at new restaurants, and traveling.
Dr. Ghadiali joined Retina Consultants after completing a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at New York University, Vitreous Retina Macula Consultants of New York, and Manhattan Eye Ear & Throat Hospital. He specializes in the medical and surgical management of vitreoretinal disease. His areas of expertise include vitreoretinal surgery, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. He currently serves as an attending physician at Cook County Health and Hospital Systems.
Dr. Ghadiali’s research interests include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, vitreous anatomy, macular holes, and central serous chorioretinopathy. He has published articles in many leading academic peer-reviewed journals including Retina, Ocular Immunology and Inflammation, Journal of Ophthalmology, Clinical Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology, and Journal of Vision. He has recently written and published two chapters in the book Operative Dictations in Ophthalmology.
Michael Blair, MD, is an ophthalmologist at Retina Consultants Ltd., with offices in Des Plaines, Libertyville, Elgin, Lisle, Hickory Hills and Wilmette, Illinois.
His clinical interests include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal vascular disease, pediatric retina including retinopathy of prematurity, complex retinal detachment repair, and ocular tumors. He has authored over 75 articles in the medical literature.
Dr. Blair earned his undergraduate degree at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He then attended the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and performed his ophthalmology residency at the Johns Hopkins University Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. Before joining Retina Consultants, Dr. Blair completed his Vitreoretinal surgery fellowship then became Assistant Professor at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He’s certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Currently, Dr. Blair also serves as a Clinical Associate at the University of Chicago, where he treats pediatric retina problems and teaches residents and fellows, and is Director of the Retinopathy of Prematurity service. He also volunteers at Cook County Health System.
When he’s not practicing, Dr. Blair enjoys swimming, soccer, salsa dancing, and mixology.

Dr. Garcia-Gonzalez earned his undergraduate degree at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He attended medical school at the Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
He completed a vitreoretinal fellowship at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. Dr. Garcia-Gonzalez completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the University of Chicago. He also trained in uveitis at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dr. Garcia-Gonzalez completed an advanced fellowship in pediatric retina and complex retinal detachment repair through Retina Consultants Ltd. with Drs. Shapiro, Blair, and Galasso.

John Galasso, MD, PhD of Retina Consultants Ltd., with offices in Des Plaines, Libertyville, Elgin, Lisle, Hickory Hills and Wilmette, Illinois, attended The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. He earned his medical degree and a doctorate in Neuroscience at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
After receiving his medical degree, he completed his internship at Northwestern University, followed by ophthalmology residency at Loyola University Medical Center. He then completed his vitreoretinal fellowship at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He’s certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Galasso’s areas of expertise and special interest include diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, surgical repair of complex retinal detachment and pediatric retinal disease.
When he is not treating patients, Dr. Galasso enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, watching his boys play hockey, and traveling.
