Hena A. Khaja, MD, is a Houston native and board-certified ophthalmologist who treats patients at Texas Eye Doctors in McKinney, Texas. She specializes in ophthalmic disease, ocular surgery, lens implantation, and retinopathy.
Dr. Khaja graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas where she majored in human biology with a focus on pathogenesis and immunities and minored in business. After graduating, she completed a transitional year program at the University of Texas in Houston, where she worked in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency settings to gain experience in general medicine, pediatrics, and surgery.

She’s also conducted groundbreaking research on acute maculopathy and dangling lens phacoemulsification, a new technique for phacoemulsification and lens implantation. She's also performed extensive performance analyses of various vitreoretinal instruments.

Dr. Reinecke is a Keller, Texas, native who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Lori Dao, a native Texan, is a highly skilled pediatric ophthalmologist and strabismologist, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders in children as well as eye muscle disorders and double vision in all ages. Dr. Arun Joseph is a board-certified ophthalmologist and Harvard fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist. His primary clinical interest is in glaucoma, and he is specialized in its prevention, diagnosis, and medical and surgical management.
To further advance his training, Dr. Joseph accepted a surgical glaucoma fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital. He was trained in the full array of interventional glaucoma, including both office-based and surgical laser treatments, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), and traditional major glaucoma surgery (tube shunt implantation and trabeculectomy). During his fellowship, he was also mentored by renowned ophthalmologist Dr. Mark Latina, a pioneer in medical lasers and the inventor of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT). SLT has become one of the most effective treatments for glaucoma, and Dr. Joseph is one of the few specialists in the country to train directly under Dr. Latina.

Santosh C. Patel, MD, is a board-certified retinal ophthalmologist on the team of dedicated providers at Retina Specialists. He currently sees patients at the practice’s Plano, DeSoto, and Waxahachie, Texas, locations.
Dr. Patel graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He went on to earn his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, gaining membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
He completed his internship at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California, and the University of California, Los Angeles, and did his residency at the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He finished his medical training with a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at the University of California, Irvine. There, he worked under the tutelage of the renowned Baruch Kupperman, MD.
Dr. Patel holds certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology and enjoys membership in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. D Magazine frequently includes him on their list of the Best Doctors in Dallas.
Dr. Patel joined Retina Specialists in 2006, where he specializes in treating a variety of vitreoretinal disease, including macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments, and diabetic retinopathy.
Dr. Patel hails from Southern California but loves calling Texas home. When he’s not working, he enjoys traveling internationally, taking photographs, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, and spending time with his wife and two children.
Steven Reinecke, MD, is a board-certified retinal ophthalmologist and one of the highly skilled providers at Retina Specialists. He sees patients at the practice’s locations in Dallas, Mesquite, and Waxahachie, Texas.
Dr. Reinecke is a Keller, Texas, native who graduated summa cum laude with a degree in microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin. He completed his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, where he graduated as a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
He pursued his postgraduate training all over the county, with an internal medicine internship in the Olive View Program at the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center, an ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Boston.
During his fellowship, Dr. Reinecke gained invaluable experience in the most state-of-the-art procedures for treating vitreoretinal conditions, like retinal detachments, retinal vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, and macular degeneration. He currently holds certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a proud member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Reinecke is bilingual in English and Spanish and takes great pleasure in improving his patients’ health and creating lifelong bonds. Outside of work, he likes to cook, travel, take photographs, watch Longhorn football, and spend time with his ever-growing family.

Robert E. Torti, MD, is a dedicated retinal ophthalmologist with over 30 years of experience and a leader in the Dallas and North Texas vitreoretinal community. He’s part of the team at Retina Specialists, treating patients at the practice’s locations in Plano, DeSoto, and Waxahachie, Texas.
Dr. Torti graduated summa cum laude with a degree in electrical engineering from The University of Memphis’s Herff College of Engineering in Tennessee. He shifted gears after graduating and decided to pursue his medical degree at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, where he graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.
He pursued rigorous postgraduate training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, completing an internship, an ophthalmology residency, and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship before starting his vitreoretinal practice in 1992.
Dr. Torti is a Tennessee native, and when he’s not working, he enjoys his family, motorbikes, snowboarding, horse breeding, and computer programming.
Dr. Philip Lieu is a retina surgeon and specialist who sees patients at Retina Specialists' Dallas, DeSoto, Mesquite, and Waxahachie offices. His clinical specialties include diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous, including diabetic retinopathy, complex retinal detachment, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, secondary intraocular lens fixation, dislocated intraocular lenses, macular and submacular surgery, retinal vascular disease, age-related macular degeneration, ocular trauma, and ocular inflammation. Dr. Lieu's research focuses on multi-modal imaging for macular disease, diabetic retinopathy, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, secondary intraocular lens fixation, resident and fellow education.
Dr. Lieu grew up in the Carrollton/Plano area before attending Johns Hopkins University for his undergraduate degree. He later returned to Dallas to obtain his M.D. at UT Southwestern Medical School. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, where he served as Chief Resident. Following this, he then completed a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit, MI under the tutelage of several renowned mentors, handling extremely complex pathology.
Dr. Lieu was then recruited to join the teaching faculty at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center, one of the top ten Ophthalmology departments in the country. There, he served as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and trained multiple residents, surgical and medical retina fellows. He held leadership positions as the Medical Director of the Kellogg Eye Center Retina Clinic in Ann Arbor, MI and the OR Medical Director, supervising the department's three ambulatory surgery centers and numerous surgeons.
Eventually, desire to be closer to family brought Dr. Lieu back to the DFW metroplex where he and his growing family now live. Dr. Lieu aims to treat all patients the way he would want to be treated, with compassion and clear communication. His hobbies include working out, cooking, traveling, and being complteely obsessed with his two dogs.
