Meet Dr. Marano
Matthew Marano Jr., MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a national leader in laser vision eye care. He leads Marano Eye Care with locations in Denville, Livingston, and Newark, New Jersey.
Dr. Marano graduated from Columbia and then went to med school at George Washington University. He has been a New Jersey Monthly Top Doctor every year for over a decade and was among the first to perform bladeless laser cataract surgery, the safest, most precise way to correct both astigmatism and cataracts.
Referring eye doctors rely on Dr. Marano’s high-level expertise for ultraprecise vision correction. Integrity and compassion sit at the heart of his practice. His team of highly experienced doctors and staff assist him in performing over 2,000 annual major eye surgeries in an unrivaled state-of-the-art facility.
The Marano Eye Care offices have the latest equipment to evaluate and treat glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and macular degeneration. He surgically implants iStent microdevices to treat glaucoma, performs iLASIK with Advanced CustomVue mapping, and performs LenSx femtosecond laser cataract surgery using advanced technology multifocal toric or Tecnis Symfony intraocular lenses.

Meet Dr. Decker
Edward Decker, MD, joined Marano Eye Care in 1996 and has provided the most cutting-edge ophthalmology services to patients since that time. He sees patients at the practice's three convenient locations in Denville, Livingston, and Newark, New Jersey.
Dr. Decker is an honor society graduate of Cornell University in New York City. He attended medical school at Upstate Medical University at Syracuse before completing his internship at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Dr. Decker served his residency at Summa Medical Center in Akron, Ohio, where he was selected to be Chief Resident senior year. As a Board Certified Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Dr. Decker cares for most eye disorders in patients of all ages.
With a commitment to his patients, Dr. Decker's professional skills and expertise are complemented by his desire to serve his patients with the care and respect they deserve. He has a particular interest in refractive surgery, laser vision correction, and the use of lasers to treat both diabetes and glaucoma. Dr. Decker has been performing laser vision correction surgery since 1996 and has significant experience in this field. He performs bladeless LASIK with the VISX and Intralase lasers. His expertise helps his patients achieve excellent visual outcomes.
Dr. Decker has presented at national meetings, authored journal articles, and is frequently invited to speak to his colleagues and other medical professionals. He has received numerous civic awards for community service. Dr. Decker has traveled to Ghana to perform surgeries on those who did not have access to the health care we take for granted.

Sanjai Jalaj, MD, recently joined Marano Eye Care, having completed a fellowship in corneal disease and refractive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute. He diagnoses and treats patients in Denville, Livingston, and Newark, New Jersey. His number one desire is to provide the highest quality vision possible utilizing both the most cutting-edge and most tried-and-true techniques.
Dr. Jalaj has advanced training in the latest methods for diagnosing and treating corneal and refractive issues including corneal collagen cross-linking for keratoconus and laser vision correction (LASIK/PRK) for myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. He is a specialist in the most advanced corneal transplantation techniques including minimally invasive techniques such as DMEK, DSAEK, DALK, and PKP to provide the highest quality vision while also preserving as much natural healthy cornea as possible. He is also a specialist in femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery utilizing the latest intraocular lens technologies to reduce the need for glasses.
Before his fellowship training, Dr. Jalaj completed his ophthalmology residency at Columbia University, where he served as chief resident. He also received training in minimally invasive glaucoma procedures to preserve vision and reduce the need for expensive eye drops, intravitreal injections to treat diabetic retinopathy and macular degeneration, and oculoplastic surgery to address droopy eyelids and wrinkles.
Dr. Jalaj has also shown an interest in giving back and advancing the field of ophthalmology. He is published in numerous medical textbooks and journals, has lectured and taught surgical training courses around the country, is an active member of state, local, and national medical organizations, and has volunteered his time and expertise to both local and international communities.
