Mark E. Patron, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina surgeon who sees patients at Mile High Retina's main location in Denver, Colorado. He moved from the East Coast to Denver in 2012 and worked with a group practice prior to starting Mile High Retina in 2020.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Patron is Ivy League-educated and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with honors. He earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating at the top of his class with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the New England Eye Center at Tufts Medical Center. He finished his training with a two-year retina fellowship at the surgery-intensive combined Retina Group of Washington, Georgetown University Hospital, and Washington Hospital Center program in the DC area.
Dr. Patron is a highly-trained, vitreoretinal surgeon who treats a wide variety of eye diseases, including retinal tears, retinal detachments, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal manifestations of systemic disease. With advanced exposure during training, he takes a special interest in diabetic retinopathy, especially the surgical repair of complex diabetic tractional retinal detachments. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has published scientific papers and presented research at national ophthalmology meetings. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists.
When not in the clinic, Dr. Patron can be found exercising at the gym or running laps around Washington Park. His Sundays are spent with a morning at church, followed by a neighborhood coffee shop, brunch with the family, a lazy afternoon watching sports, or shuttling his young kids, Andrew and Isabel, around to their extracurricular activities. In addition to their children, Dr. Patron and his wife Erika, a gastroenterologist with South Denver Gastroenterology, also have two French bulldogs – Gemma and Duke. Marshall Huang, MD is a fellowship-trained cataract and glaucoma surgeon. He graduated magna cum laude from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science, in both Nutritional and Biological Sciences with a concentration in Neurobiology and Behavior. Through his research, he has received several honors and awards, including grants from the University of Pittsburgh, as a part of the Physician Scientist Training Program and as a Walter L. Leonid Zukin, MD is a board-certified and Harvard fellowship-trained cataract, refractive, and corneal surgeon. Originally from Belarus, Dr. Zukin immigrated to Denver in early childhood and considers himself a Colorado native.Dr. Zukin obtained early guaranteed admission to medical school after high school via the University of Colorado’s BS-MD Program, where he graduated summa cum laude and received the Outstanding Undergraduate award as the top graduate from the College.
