Central Florida Ophthalmology (CFO) is a premier, top-tier ophthalmology practice offering cataract surgery, cornea treatment, glaucoma management, and more. From the office in Oviedo, Florida, founder Dr. Jeffrey R. Golen, MD, and the team specialize in comprehensive ophthalmology to provide their patients with the best eye care possible.
Dr. Golen is originally from the metropolitan Detroit area of Michigan, and has always loved science. Throughout his adolescence, he was particularly attracted to biology and was torn between becoming a scientist or a physician. He notes that the building of community and daily interaction with patients pointed him toward medicine rather than scientific research.
Attending the University of Notre Dame on a full-ride ROTC scholarship, Dr. Golen graduated and fulfilled his military obligation as a United States Army Captain in the Ohio National Guard while earning his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati's College of Medicine. He moved to Tampa, Florida, for his ophthalmology residency at the University of South Florida. After residency graduation, Dr. Golen completed a cornea fellowship at the F.I. Proctor Foundation at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).
Prior to moving back to Florida for private practice, Dr. Golen was on faculty at the University of Virginia for three years as an ophthalmologist, cornea specialist, cornea and cataract surgeon, and assistant residency program director. At UVA, Dr. Golen treated complex cataracts, severe traumas, advanced infections, and congenital eye disorders. Given the severe disease state of some of the cornea cases, he even implanted multiple Boston Keratoprosthesis corneal transplants, a part prosthetic, part biologic artificial cornea.
Now in private practice at Central Florida Ophthalmology (CFO) in Oviedo, FL, Dr. Golen and his team treat various eye conditions, including cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, pterygium, diabetic eye disease, and corneal pathology. The team’s specialization and expertise in general ophthalmological care provide the foundation of optimal eye health for their patients.
Dr. Golen is a lifelong athlete, as well as a health and fitness fan. You will often hear him discussing lifestyle optimization with his patients, with the goal of improving overall health and wellbeing. He enjoys reading nonfiction books, weight training, sports of every variety, live music, and especially outdoor activities. His favorite activity is spending time with his wife and two children.

5755 North Point Parkway
Suite 94
Alpharetta, GA 30022
Hello and welcome! My name is Dr. Anand K. Shah, M.D. In 2016 I opened Eye Associates of North Atlanta, LLC in Alpharetta, Georgia to provide the highest quality eye care to patients throughout the area. Though I was born in Brooklyn, New York, I consider myself a local since I spent the majority of my childhood in Athens, Georgia.
It was during my high school years there that I became interested in medicine and spent the next 14 years of my life training all over the country in amazing cities like Boston, Detroit, Denver, and Portland, Oregon.
Despite my love of travel, I always knew I wanted to come back to the Southeast and so, in 2009, I came full circle and returned to Atlanta. Since returning, I have acquired valuable clinical and surgical experience with a highly regarded local group practice and most recently, a national healthcare organization.
I am especially passionate about ophthalmology because it is a patient-focused field where I can interact with teens and adults of all ages on a daily basis, and at the same time, apply my technical skills by performing microsurgery to improve vision. Nothing is more rewarding than restoring the sense of sight!
I also treat the full range of eye conditions and diseases and am very proficient in performing cataract surgery. Philosophically, I approach patient care from your perspective and will treat you the same way that I would want my family to be treated. In this way, I am committed to making sure that every aspect of your visit is pleasant and that all of your questions are answered by either myself or my staff.
I strive to achieve a healthy work-life balance and encourage my patients to do the same. For me, it is through daily walks with my wife after work, running through the park, or just relaxing at home with my two small children. My family and I also enjoy traveling, skiing and hiking. We love to explore the great outdoors which is especially easy in Atlanta where the weather is warm nearly year round! I find that by cultivating my interests outside of work, I am constantly rejuvenated and refreshed.
I look forward to welcoming you to our practice and the opportunity to care for you.

Elson Lai, MD, is a board-certified eye physician and surgeon and proud to serve men and women throughout the San Gabriel Valley at Rosemead Eye Center in Rosemead, California. A product of nearby Arcadia High School, Dr. Lai went on to graduate Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in molecular and cell biology. It was as an undergraduate at UC Berkeley that he first developed a fascination with the eyes. After graduation, Dr. Lai attended the Chicago Medical School where he was awarded Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, which is given to the top 10% of medical students. He then completed his internship in internal medicine at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, where he served as surgical chief. This is the largest program in the country and known for its high surgical volume and pathology.
Dr. Lai trained in a number of innovative surgical techniques during his ophthalmology residency, including intraocular lens implantation during cataract surgery. His residency class was the first to start using the multifocal and toric lens as residents. This technique involves replacing the natural lens with advanced technology lenses. These lenses not only fix cataracts but correct astigmatism, near or farsightedness, and presbyopia, thus allowing patients to be less dependent on glasses.
Dr. Lai’s interests include cataract and refractive surgery, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and treatment and management of glaucoma. He belongs to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the Los Angeles Society of Ophthalmology. His volunteer work includes providing free eye exams to the community at the Taiwanese Lions Club of San Gabriel Valley, going on Medical Missions, and training ophthalmology residents at LAC+USC Medical Center.
It’s Dr. Lai’s philosophy that his patients deserve the same quality of care that he’d provide for his own family. He’s excited to be back in Southern California and providing compassionate care that uses the most cutting-edge techniques available.
