Dr. Edward B Blackmon Jr. was born and raised in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He earned his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. He completed an internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Madigan Army Medical Center.
He served as a Medical officer in the US Army Reserves reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was recalled to active duty for Operation Desert Storm. While in private practice in Akron, Ohio he was also an Associate Clinical Professor at North Eastern Ohio University College of Medicine.
He practiced In Jourdanton, Texas from 2005 to 2020 serving terms as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery. Methodist Hospital System closed the Maternity Service Line in July 2020, and he relocated his practice to join Dr Al-Hakeem in September 2020.Dr Blackmon has experience and interest in many aspects of OB-GYN including High-Risk Obstetrics, Minimally invasive surgery, and Female Incontinence. Dr. Houmam Al-Hakeem received his medical degree from University of Damascus - Faculty of Medicine in Damascus, Syria in 1995. He also trained in Family Medicine at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Amarillo, Texas, and completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Dr. Al-Hakeem has extensive experience in a number of different fields, including high-risk pregnancies and gynelogical surgeries. Outside of the office, Dr. Al-Hakeem enjoys spending time with his wife and children.

Susan Crockett, MD, FACOG is a Board Certified OB/GYN specializing in Minimally Invasive Gyn Surgery (MIGS). She is one of the top 1% Benign Gyn Robotic surgeons in the world, with almost 30 years of experience providing compassionate, dedicated care for women. Dr. Crockett practices at Virtuosa GYN, the premier location for advanced benign gynecological surgery in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Crockett earned her MD at Texas A&M University College of Medicine in and completed her OB/GYN residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.
Dr. Crockett holds herself to the highest standards of medical care. She served as the director of obstetrics and gynecology for the Santa Rosa Family Practice Residency Program and was an assistant clinical professor for the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. She was appointed to the US FDA Advisory Committee for Reproductive Health Drugs in 2004 and has co-authored many medical publications and two books.
In 2009, Dr. Crockett began performing minimally invasive (or robotic) gynecology surgery, becoming one of the first gynecological surgeons to complete master’s level training for da Vinci® surgery. She’s one of the first surgeons in the nation to offer Acessa™, a minimally invasive treatment for uterine fibroids.
In 2012, Dr. Crockett was named a Top Doctor by US News and World Report for robotic gynecologic surgery. She’s been named one of San Antonio's best doctors for decades.
Since 2014, Dr. Crockett Founded Virtuosa Gyn, Central and South Texas' first MIGS practice, primarily dedicated to making surgery easier for women. She has completed almost 3000 robotic cases, and maintains an open surgical rate of less than 1%, with exceedingly low complication rates. Her passions include robotic surgery for benign complex gynecology, nonmesh options for pelvic floor reconstruction, and minimizing narcotic use for postoperative pain.
Dr. Crockett is a highly sought after speaker, proctor, and case observation site for robotic surgery. In 2024, she was named to Intuitive Surgical as their first female National Faculty member for benign gyn surgery. She is the immediate past Chief of Surgery and current Director of Robotic Surgery for Northeast Methodist Hospital. She is a regular surgery faculty member for BAMC Ob/Gyn Residents learning robotic surgery.
Currently, she is helping to complete the development of Northeast Methodist Hospital's Outpatient Surgery Center, launching in September 2024. This center has the distinct honor of being named only the third Intuitive Surgical Epicenter for Bengin Gynecology and is being developed as a Center of Excellence for teaching more surgeons how to provide this exeptional level of surgical care to more women.
