Raised by Jamaican parents, she is the middle sibling of two boys. Dr. Costley earned her Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and her medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was chief resident in her final year.
