Dr. Andersson graduated cum laude in medicine from the University of Cape Town in 1986. The year after he completed a 1-year internship in internal medicine, surgery and obstetrics and gynecology at Groote Schuur Hospital, where the first heart transplant was done. In 1988, he earned an honors degree in medical biochemistry at the University of Cape Town. Between 1988 and 1991, he obtained a D.Phil in neuroimmunology at Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He was College Lecturer in Immunology at Christ Church 1989-92. He was Yamanouchi Junior Research Fellow in Cell Biology at Wolfson 1991-2. Junior Research Fellowships are awarded to the top 2% of graduates at Oxford University. Between 1992 and 1997, he completed an internal medicine internship and then neurology residency at the University of California, San Francisco where he also served as Chief Resident. He has completed fellowships in multiple sclerosis at UCSF and in neuromuscular disease at Stanford University. He served on the faculty at Stanford University in the neuromuscular division before moving to the Valley in 1999 and has served this community as both an outpatient and inpatient neurologist for over 20 years.
He is published in laboratory and clinical neurology. He has served as an ad hoc reviewer for the journal Muscle & Nerve. He has been listed in Marquis Who’s Who Science and Engineering. He was selected as a Noticed Expert Network Distinguished Physician. He has been named a Southern California Super Doctor each year 2010-2023, and is listed in Los Angeles Magazine. He has been listed in The Leading Physicians of the World Directory. He served as Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology and Clinical Assistant Professor of Neurology for over two decades at UCLA, teaching the residents and medical students. He is a Fellow of the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He has special expertise in electrodiagnostic medicine, EMG and EEG. He is Medical Director for California for Stratus Neurodiagnostics, the leading outpatient EEG services company in the U.S. He has training and experience in design and conduct of clinical trials, and has served as Principal and Co-Investigator for dementia trials at The National Research Institute. He has a long experience of medical legal consulting and expert witness services.

Dr. Lan earned her DO degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Illinois in 2017. She then completed her Neurology residency at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California and received Headache Fellowship training at USC’s Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles.
Dr. Lan was born and raised in Southern California and is excited to practice where she can raise her young children close to family. She enjoys hiking and trying new recipes.
Yamin Sallowm, MD, is a neurologist and pain medicine specialist. He sees patients at Centers of Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine, which has locations in Placentia and Rancho Mirage, California.
He graduated from an ACGME-accredited neurology residency program and an ACGME-accredited fellowship program in pain medicine, both at Henry Ford Health/Wayne State University in Michigan. He practiced interventional pain medicine in Michigan for the past three years before he moved to California and joined our team at Centers of Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine.
His background in neurology is extremely valuable for any chronic pain assessment as it provides a deep understanding of the anatomy and nerve physiology; he is then able to combine this knowledge with the patient’s symptoms and match it with the exam and imaging findings in order to generate the most effective treatment plan including medication, physical therapy and interventional procedures that are tailored to fit each patient’s needs and functional capacity.

Dr. Hiner received his M.D. cum laude from the Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1982, having completed the usual 4 years in 3 years in an accelerated scholars program. He was inducted into the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha by his second year. He completed Neurology training at Stanford University, chosen Administrative Chief Resident by the faculty his senior year. After a year of basic neurosciences fellowship he embarked on a career in clinical medicine and research, establishing one of the largest programs for Parkinson’s disease and other Movement disorders first at the Marshfield Clinic and then at the Medical College of Wisconsin. As full professor he developed one of the largest and most active programs specializing in advanced treatments including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), where he served as Neurologic Director. He has over 40 research publications in the field, and has participated in over 800 DBS surgeries performing intraoperative microelectrode recording (for precise targeting) and post-op DBS programming.
Dr. Hiner and his wife are proud grandparents of 4 wonderful girls, and relocated to Southern California to stay close to family. At the same time, he is excited to be in clinical practice with Link Neurosciences, developing a Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders program offering the most advanced care including DBS
for these conditions.
When not practicing medicine, Dr. Hiner enjoys golf and playing classical guitar.

Melissa is a native of Southern California. She completed her undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley, where she first discovered her passion for the neurosciences. She continued studying cognitive neuroscience in her graduate program at UC San Diego. After realizing a desire to become involved in direct patient care, she decided to pursue a career as a neurology PA and attended the Duke University Physician Assistant Program.
Melissa joined Link Neuroscience Institute in the Fall of 2022. In addition to her love for all things related to the brain, Melissa is passionate about patient education and ensuring that her patients leave with a better understanding of their health. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, drawing, going on national park trips, trying new restaurants (especially pizza spots), and spending time with friends and family.
Throughout his extensive career, board-certified neurologist William Shankle, MS, MD, FACP, has been regarded as a leading expert in the management and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related neurological degenerative conditions. As the founder of Shankle Clinic in Newport Beach, California, Dr. Shankle uses his extensive experience to provide exceptional care for patients from near and far.
Dr. Shankle attended undergrad at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where he completed a bachelor’s degree in biology. He continued to Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he completed medical school.
He pursued an internship in internal medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and then completed his residency in neurology at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. Dr. Shankle also trained as a statistician at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles and completed further postgraduate studies at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
After co-founding the Alzheimer’s Research Center at the University of California, Irvine, Dr. Shankle served as Clinical Director for ten years. He also served as Director of the Memory and Cognitive Disorders Program at Hoag Neurosciences Institute.
Dr. Shankle has taken part in many research endeavors and has received numerous awards, including the Zenith Fellows Award from the Alzheimer’s Association. The New York Times has also recognized Dr. Shankle’s investigations on human brain development, reporting on his research as among the most important scientific discoveries of the 1990s.
Alireza Bozorgi, MD, is a board-certified neurologist and interventional pain management physician who also specializes in epilepsy and pain management. He sees patients at Minimally Invasive Medical Group, which has offices in Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, and Irvine, California.
He received his medical degree from Tehran, Iran. He completed a neurology residency at Tehran University. He then completed another neurology residency at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. He obtained a subspecialty in Epilepsy in Cleveland. He worked for two years at Mercy Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. Then, he completed a year of fellowship in pain management in Cleveland. Then, he moved to Detroit, Michigan, where he practiced for a year. He then moved to California and started to practice at Minimally Invasive Medical Group.
Dr. Bozorgi has a wealth of research experience and has published extensively. He is a member of several professional associations, including the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.
