He has achieved fellowship designation in four areas of medical practice to include sleep medicine, pediatrics, pediatric pulmonology, and internal medicine.
A New Braunfels native, Dr. Smith earned his undergraduate degree from Austin College in Sherman, Texas, and remained in the state to complete his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He refined his skills and knowledge through an internship and residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, where he was also appointed chief resident of internal medicine and pediatrics.

Avie Grunspan, MD, is a board-certified sleep medicine specialist and a highly skilled internal medicine practitioner. Education has always played a central role in Dr. Grunspan’s life. He began his studies at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and the University of Cincinnati, both in his native Ohio.
