Dr. Kate Leavens is a naturopathic physician and acupuncturist. She earned a doctorate in naturopathic medicine and a masters in acupuncture with a Chinese herbal medicine specialization from the National University of Natural Medicine in Portland, OR. She is a first year resident working with Dr. Ilana Guervich.

While Dr. Leavens’ training has focused on primary care, she has also completed more extensive training in gastroenterology, endocrinology, and women’s health. She is certified in pelvic floor therapy as well as somatic dialogue and has continued training in craniosacral therapy from UpLedger Institute. By integrating naturopathic philosophy, conventional medical tools, and Chinese medicine modalities, she is excited to offer a holistic and individualized approach to each and every patient. Dr. Alaina Goesling  is a licensed Naturopathic Physician at Open Wellness PDX and specializes in naturopathic gastroenterology. She is passionate about gut health and believes many GI conditions can be treated by using evidence-based alternative treatments. David Chang, ND, LAc, is a board-certified naturopathic physician and acupuncturist at Open Wellness PDX in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Chang has extensive experience providing primary care, chronic pain management, and traditional Chinese medicine services. 

Dr. Chang was born in Taipei, Taiwan, and he spent part of his childhood there before relocating to beautiful Ashland, Oregon, and then to Portland. He completed his medical education at the National University of Natural Medicine, and then went on to pursue clinical training under the guidance of fellow physician, Dr. Ilana Gurevich. 

In addition to his six-year training in natural medicine, Dr. Chang has specialized training in therapies like prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), cold laser therapy, restorative cell therapy, and perineural injections.

Eric Blake, ND, Dipl. Ac., is an expert naturopathic physician and the medical director of Portland Clinic of Holistic Health, providing care in Downtown Portland, Oregon. Dr. Blake received his Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. He presented his undergraduate work on cross-cultural medicine and religion in Cairo, Egypt at an International Conference in 1992. Upon graduating, he was an herbalist in Cincinnati as well as working alongside an experienced Japanese acupuncturist in New York City. Medeya Tsnobiladze, ND, MS, is an experienced naturopathic physician and acupuncturist at Fairfield Family Health in Fairfield, Connecticut. Dr. Medeya’s initial path to “naturopathic medicine” started long before she knew these words. She was a weak and sickly child. In her first five years of life, she had five pneumonia, persistent respiratory issues, and numerous digestive complaints. She was completely unable to tolerate high-fat foods and carbonated beverages.

Desperate to get better, her mother took her every summer to various towns of “mineral waters,” where they spent a month there following strict diets, drinking mineral water straight from the sources, and utilizing various physical therapy interventions.

All those wonderful treatments were offered at “sanatoriums,” where people lived in hotel-style rooms, ate at cafeterias that offered multiple therapeutic diets, and had dozens of “treatment rooms,” in which they were getting massage therapies, electrophoresis, mud baths, colonic hydrotherapy, nebulizer treatments with essential oils, and many other treatments.

She immensely enjoyed that experience. Something about having a daily routine of drinking salty hot mineral water from specially shaped mugs, walking miles per day, and eating a limited set of products made her feel much healthier by the end of each visit. After five yearly visits, by the age of 10, she was completely cured, emerging as a strong and resilient kid who had the energy to participate in sports and many extra-curricular activities.

The medicine that saved her was just “medicine” without any “naturopathic” or “integrative” modifiers. Doctors at sanatoriums and clinics prescribed drugs, ordered regular labs, EKGs, and imaging studies, but also performed colonic hydrotherapies, selected therapeutic diets, ordered appropriate sets of exercises, and selected mineral water protocols. That complex approach was the best Soviet medicine could offer. That was the best medicine she knew. In America, it fits best into the “integrative medicine” approach, and she is as committed to it now as she was at 10.

During her PhD work in the neuroscience program at the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, she also worked with a clinical team developing treatments for people who survived prolonged cardiac arrest and strokes and saw that both pharmaceutical and natural substances have an impact on the restoration of neurologic functions. During her time in the program, is where she first developed her interest in working with patients.

While still in Russia, she also began her passion for Chinese medicine by taking Tai Chi classes five days a week. Tai Chi helped her to heal compression fractures that led to years of back pain. As the University of Bridgeport had an Acupuncture institute that allowed for enrollment alongside the ND program, it was only natural for her to enthusiastically complete a dual degree. Through first-hand experience, she adds these additional tools to clinical care.

Dr. Caprio completed his medical studies at the University of Rome, School of Medicine and Surgery. He also graduated from the National College of. Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. He has been working as a naturopathic physician for over 40 years and is recognized for his work in allergy treatment for the management of chronic degenerative diseases. He was amongst the first to pioneer non-invasive allergy screening methods and the science of phenolic food compounds and sublingual immunotherapy.
