Dr. Emmanuel Quaye is an internal medicine and functional medicine specialist based in Florence, SC. He was educated at Emory University, where he also completed his residency in internal medicine. After residency, he joined the faculty at Morehouse School of Medicine in the Department of Medicine.
At Morehouse he was involved in clinical teaching and research. His research interest was hypertension and minority health, but did some work in genetic polymorphisms of cytochrome P-450 enzymes. His work with residents and students included teaching a course on medical decision making. Dr. Quaye is a reviewer for Annals of Internal Medicine, and in 2009, he was recognized by the journal as a top reviewer.
Dr. Quaye moved to Hartsville, SC in 2002 to start a private practice. He discovered functional medicine in 2009, took the required courses and started practicing functional medicine the same year. He has made functional medicine an integral part of his practice since then. In 2013, Dr. Quaye was among the first class of physicians to be certified by the Institute for Functional Medicine.
Dr. Quaye has used his clinical training in internal medicine and functional medicine to develop clinical protocols to address weight management, non-narcotic pain management, age management, and polypharmacy reduction. He has also received training the Alzheimer’s disease program developed by Dr. Dale Bredesen. Finally, Dr. Quaye is part of a program to treat auto-immune diseases using the principles of functional medicine.
