Frank DeTrane, MD, FACG, is one of the founding members of Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg. He has been with the practice since February 1995.
Dr. DeTrane earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia in 1985 and completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, in 1992. Dr. DeTrane is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and is a Diplomat with the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. DeTrane has been active in directing the growth of Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg to its current 20,000 square foot Digestive Center. Dr. DeTrane previously served as Chairman of the Endoscopy Committee at Mary Washington Hospital for eight years and helped design and manage the Endoscopy Center at the hospital. He is the past President of the Fredericksburg Medical Society and a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Gastroenterological Association. Dr. DeTrane is proficient in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
Dr. DeTrane's special interests include colon cancer prevention and GERD, and he has organized and participated in various public forums and grand rounds pertaining to these topics. He continually evaluates opportunities and new technologies that will provide the best GI care for the Fredericksburg area. Dong Lee, MD, joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg in August 2008. Dr. Lee is currently not accepting new patients, as he has recently scaled back his practice hours and will be seeing patients 2 days per week starting in August, 2024.
Dr. Lee is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and certified in gastroenterology. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1994 from the University of California at Berkeley, in California; and his Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York at Brooklyn in 1998, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Dr. Lee was the head of the gastroenterology clinic at National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, which serves our nation’s military and elite elected officials. Chetan Pai, DO, MBA is a gastroenterologist at Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg, which has locations in Fredricksburg and Stafford, Virginia. He joined the practice in June 2010. To ensure he has adequate time to care for his existing patient population, Dr. Pai is currently not accepting new patients. Dr. Pai has been instrumental in recruiting several new physicians to Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg to ensure the practice has the capacity to serve the needs of the communit.
Dr. Pai earned his medical degree at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology and hepatology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. In addition, he was selected among many applicants to do an advanced endoscopy fellowship (ERCP & EUS) at Henry Ford Hospital. Dr. Pai is Board Certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. He is the only one in the surrounding area that has had additional training (certified) to perform EUS. Akash Ajmera, MD, is a gastroenterologist at Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg, located in Fredericksburg and Stafford, Virginia. He joined the practice in June 2019.
Dr. Ajmera completed his internal medicine residency at Cooper University Hospital, University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and his gastroenterology fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital. Upon completing his training, he worked for five years at Marshall University/Cabell Huntington Hospital in West Virginia, where he was appointed Chief of Gastroenterology.

Anwar Dudekula, MD, joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg – which has locations in Fredericksburg and Stafford, Virginia – in August 2021.
Dr. Dudekula completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado and his fellowship in gastroenterology at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Dudekula also performed an additional year of fellowship training, completing his advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.
Dr. Dudekula has published multiple publications as first author and received several awards and honors during his training.
Dr. Dudekula is a board-certified gastroenterologist. Narayan Dharel, MD, PhD, joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg – which has locations in Fredericksburg and Stafford, Virginia – in July 2015 after completing a fellowship in gastroenterology and transplant hepatology at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Dr. Dharel completed his residency training at Cornell University affiliate Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in New York. Prior to moving to Virginia, he worked for four years as an attending physician at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School at Boston.
Dr. Dharel is triple Board Certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology, and transplant hepatology.
