Peter Wong, MD, FACP, FACG, joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg in June 2001 after serving as a US Army physician for nine years (retired as a Major). Dr. Wong is currently not accepting new patients, as he has recently scaled his practice back to part-time, seeing patients two days per week.
Dr. Wong is a Diplomat with the American Board of Internal Medicine and certified in gastroenterology. Dr. Jameel Shareef joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg in October of 2023. Dr. Shareef received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Amandeep Kalra, MD, joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg – which has locations in Fredricksburg and Stafford, Virginia – in October 2020.
Dr. Karla completed his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. Prior to this, he completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Kalra is a board-certified gastroenterologist. He is proficient in the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including endoscopy, esophageal dilation, screening and surveillance colonoscopy, removing complex colon polyps, and banding esophageal varices. Dr. Kalra has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease. During his fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, he worked in the inflammatory bowel disease clinic for two years. During that time, he was involved in caring for patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Meeta Desai, MD, of Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg, provides specialized gastroenterology diagnosis and treatment to people living and around Fredericksburg and Stafford, Virginia. She joined the practice in October 2022.
Dr. Desai holds board certification in internal medicine and gastroenterology and is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Penn State Health in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Desai studied at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia, earning a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. She earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada and completed an internal medicine residency and fellowship at Penn State Health in Hershey.

Chetan Pai, DO, MBA is a gastroenterologist at Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg, which has locations in Fredricksburg and Stafford, Virginia. He joined the practice in June 2010. To ensure he has adequate time to care for his existing patient population, Dr. Pai is currently not accepting new patients. Dr. Pai has been instrumental in recruiting several new physicians to Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg to ensure the practice has the capacity to serve the needs of the communit.

Dr. Pai recently received his Master's of Business Administration from George Washington University and currently serves as the practice's Managing Partner. Frank DeTrane, MD, FACG, is one of the founding members of Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg. He has been with the practice since February 1995.
Dr. DeTrane earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia in 1985 and completed his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC, in 1992. Dr. DeTrane is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology and is a Diplomat with the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Dr. DeTrane has been active in directing the growth of Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg to its current 20,000 square foot Digestive Center. Dr. DeTrane previously served as Chairman of the Endoscopy Committee at Mary Washington Hospital for eight years and helped design and manage the Endoscopy Center at the hospital. He is the past President of the Fredericksburg Medical Society and a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American Gastroenterological Association. Dr. DeTrane is proficient in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
Dr. DeTrane's special interests include colon cancer prevention and GERD, and he has organized and participated in various public forums and grand rounds pertaining to these topics. Dr. Dudekula completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado and his fellowship in gastroenterology at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Dudekula also performed an additional year of fellowship training, completing his advanced therapeutic endoscopy fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

Amandeep Kalra, MD, joined Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg – which has locations in Fredricksburg and Stafford, Virginia – in October 2020.
Dr. Karla completed his gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. Prior to this, he completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Kalra is a board-certified gastroenterologist. He is proficient in the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including endoscopy, esophageal dilation, screening and surveillance colonoscopy, removing complex colon polyps, and banding esophageal varices. Dr. Kalra has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease. During his fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, he worked in the inflammatory bowel disease clinic for two years. During that time, he was involved in caring for patients with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Being trained in one of the nation's liver transplant centers, Dr. Kalra also has an interest in end-stage liver disease, fatty liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis, and chronic hepatitis B and C. Apart from inflammatory bowel disease and liver disease, Dr. Kalra also has an interest in treating patients with irritable bowel syndrome and eosinophilic esophagitis.
Dr. Kalra believes in evidence-based medicine and has done research in various fields of medicine. His most recent research involves the role of capsule endoscopy in obscure gastroenterology bleeding.
Dr. Kalra's goal is to have the best treatment plan for his patient and to achieve the maximum level of patient satisfaction. He listens carefully to his patients and actively engages them in the planning process.
Dr. Kalra is credentialed with most insurance plans and currently has medical staff privileges at Mary Washington Hospital and Stafford Hospital. He performs procedures at both hospitals as well as at the brand new Fredericksburg Endoscopy Center.
Meeta Desai, MD, of Gastroenterology Associates of Fredericksburg, provides specialized gastroenterology diagnosis and treatment to people living and around Fredericksburg and Stafford, Virginia. She joined the practice in October 2022.
Dr. Desai holds board certification in internal medicine and gastroenterology and is currently an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Penn State Health in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Desai studied at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Virginia, earning a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. She earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada and completed an internal medicine residency and fellowship at Penn State Health in Hershey.
Dr. Desai served a visiting rotation in gastroenterology at Virginia Tech Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia, and studied at the Center for Esophageal Diseases & Swallowing at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. In 2021, Dr. Desai won Penn State Health’s Exceptional Performance Award (Department of Medicine).
In addition to her extensive training and broad-ranging clinical experience, Dr. Desai has given lectures and grand rounds and delivered presentations at professional conferences. She has also been a co-author of numerous academic research papers and textbook chapters in gastroenterology.
Motivated by her compassionate nature, Dr. Desai has served as a volunteer for several organizations in the United States and overseas, including Habitat for Humanity in Staunton, Virginia, and Global Medical Brigades. She is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterology Association.
