Dr. Sachdeva grew up in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated with honors from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, a magnet school of math and science. He pursued his medical training mainly in New York, completing his medical degree and internal medicine residency training at New York Medical College. 

After residency, Dr. Sachdeva served on the medical faculty at New York Medical College before relocating to Chapel Hill.
