Our Primary Care Physician, Dr. Aref Karbasi, is capable of diagnosing and treating a range of conditions for patients across their lifespan. Dr. Elain Tong was born in Pasadena, CA. Her interest in medicine began at a young age, after suffering multiple ankle injuries from years of dancing classical ballet. Her injuries were successfully treated by her father (Yee-Wing Tong, MD) with NBE therapy, or Neuro-Bioenergetics treatment, a therapy he developed combining western anesthetic nerve blocks and trigger point injections with acupuncture and the principles of Chinese medicine. This allowed her to continue dancing, performing, and competing with little downtime. When she was 15, her father taught her the NBE technique to help treat his own chronic illnesses. It was these experiences that led her to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Elain graduated from UCLA with a major in Psychobiology and a minor in Classical Civilization, and then went on to study Chinese Medicine for two years at Samra University in Los Angeles. She received her medical degree from Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Valarie has been working as an aesthetic nurse with Westlake Laser since 2000.  She is highly proficient with injectable fillers and neurotoxins as well as aesthetic lasers and other modalities.  She will help you look your best, while still appearing natural and will use the numerous resources available at our office to create a customized plan to achieve that goal.

Valarie graduated from the University of Oregon with a BS degree and began her career in the computer business.  After the birth of her children she returned to school to become a registered nurse. She spent 10 years working as a labor and delivery nurse before she moved to aesthetics and began the journey with Westlake Laser.  She feels fortunate to have the resources and support of our medical director, Dr. A.
