Dr. Cologne earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, in Urbana, Illinois. He then received his medical degree at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his postgraduate training with a sleep fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a psychiatry residency at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University Consortium in St. Louis, Missouri.
Before joining the team at Own Sleep Medicine, Dr. Cologne gained valuable experience working as a psychiatrist and sleep physician at various facilities nationwide. He also spent a year as an instructor of clinical psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis, located in St. Louis County, Missouri.
Dr. Cologne maintains professional and scientific memberships with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, and the Philadelphia County Medical Society. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and his research appears in numerous publications and presentations.
Kersten, DNP, ARNP is originally from Sacramento, California. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. In her senior year at the U of M, she studied abroad in Dakar, Senegal, which included time at a community health care center that focused on improving health outcomes through literacy programs - and combined Kersten's two main passions in life: health promotion and language. Kersten later attended Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and continued on to complete her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Family Medicine with a focus on Palliative Care. For 15 years, Kersten worked at the U of M hospital in the Emergency Department and Float Pool with a focus on Cardiology nursing and being an expert generalist. After many holidays and summers visiting the Pacific Northwest, she recently moved to Vancouver, WA to be closer to family.
Kersten said, "I love supporting my patients and empowering them through all walks of life. I see myself as a partner in their healthcare journey. I especially enjoy building relationships and working with patients to establish their healthcare goals."
In her spare time, Kersten enjoys traveling, hiking, making progress on her long reading list, cooking heart-healthy food, playing Pokemon Go, and trying to improve her bowling game with the family. Julie Foster, FNP, MSN, founded Pohala Clinic PC in Portland, Oregon, as a place of healing that is a culmination of her 25 years of experience in nursing and integrative medicine. She’s a licensed and board-certified family nurse practitioner who combines conventional medicine with anthroposophic medicine that includes naturopathy and indigenous wisdom. Julie received her Bachelor’s in Nursing with Science Honors from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, and her Master’s in Nursing, specializing in Family Medicine, from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington.
Julie’s long-time commitment to nursing and health services goes back to her youth. She started as a candy striper volunteer in her teens, progressed to working as an ER nurse, and then combined nursing with indigenous and integrative medicine.
Because of a family connection to mental health issues, she has sought special education in the field of mental health care. She also has experience and training in the field of women’s health.
Although she was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Julie is Hawaiian through her father’s lineage, and she supports the causes of indigenous rights worldwide and through medical charities.
Julie’s approach to healing draws on ancient and modern wisdom. Dr. Benz graduated from the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine, in Canada where he is originally from. He completed his medical residency at Hurley Medical Center. Dr. Benz enjoys using both his medical knowledge and his teaching skills to help patients make decisions that are consistent with their health goals. Many of his patients have been with him for over 20 years. He enjoys spending his free time with family and traveling.

She attended college at Pacific University, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology in 1991. After college, she went to medical school at Oregon Health Sciences University and then completed her medical residency in Family Practice at Kaiser Permanente in Woodland Hills, California in 1998. She went on to work at Kaiser Permanente for 16 years and was the lead Family physician on the East side of Portland.
She also worked as a physician at Providence Health & Services for 4 years, where she was given an award for the highest patient satisfaction rating. During the Covid-19 Pandemic, she was the Chief Medical Officer at an Emergency Intake Site on Ft. Bliss Army Base in El Paso, Texas where she oversaw the medical care of Covid-19 patients, along with other co-existing medical conditions.
In her free time, she enjoys exploring the great outdoors and has hiked many trails in the Pacific Northwest. She believes in living a balanced life so that she can provide the best medical care to the patients who entrust their care to her.
