Dr. McCarren completed his residency at the University of Cincinnati in the department of Family Medicine during which he was the chief resident. Dr. McCarren was appointed to faculty at the University of Cincinnati in the Department of Family Medicine. He was the director of residency training from 1983-1985. Dr. McCarren then worked as an emergency medicine physician at Deaconess Hospital before moving to private practice in 1986.
