Dr. Awodele is a residency-trained and board-certified occupational medicine physician with over nine years of medical expertise in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Aviation and Aerospace Medicine, and Preventive Medicine. He also trained at Duke University for Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS).
Dr. Awodele earned his undergraduate degree in Physiology and Neurobiology at the University of Connecticut in 2008, with a focus on neurophysiology.
Throughout medical school, he participated in Traumatic Brain Injury research at Harvard Medical Institute and Walter Reed National Military Naval Medical Center. There, he identified biomarkers of brain biochemistry that might distinguish between soldiers returning from the Afghanistan and Iraq war fronts suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and those suffering from mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) using advanced methods of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS).
Dr. Awodele earned his medical degree from Howard College of Medicine and completed a Transitional Year Internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego before beginning his military operational tour.
He served as the U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon for Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169 (HMLA-169) and Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 764 (VMM-764). He served with distinction as the Flight Surgeon for the Special Purpose Marine Corps Air Ground Task Force Pacific for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Dr. Awodele completed his residency in occupational medicine at the University of California, Irvine, where he also earned a Master of Science in Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) with a focus on toxicology. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Howard University College of Medicine.
He was introduced to MeRT during his clinical rotation at Wave Neuroscience. He was astonished by testimonials from both adult and pediatric patients who had received MeRT treatment, as well as the spouses and parents of children whose lives were transformed because of the improvements they observed in their loved ones.
As he said:
“I was initially skeptical that a non-invasive medical treatment could cause such remarkable healing after only their first treatments. It is an effective new technology, so I read everything about it. I was impressed with the sophisticated data analytics and precision medicine approach that provides custom treatment for each individual.
“I was moved after witnessing patients describe how they experienced better sleep, reported better physical and mental performance due to improvements in their cognition, and weaned off from their chronic pain medications and stimulants.
“I have been a military physician for most of my career, and I have seen a lot of functional marines and sailors with chronic fatigue, addiction, depression, anxiety, TBI, and PTSD who didn’t seek treatment because they felt physically strong or didn’t want to take medications due to their operational status. I have also witnessed close friends report exhaustion and near helplessness due to parenting their child with learning difficulties.
“Witnessing firsthand their transformation after receiving MeRT treatment made me a believer in its effectiveness.”
When not working with patients, Dr. Awodele enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters. He also enjoys flying, sailing, diving, camping, traveling, and participating in outdoor athletic events and activities.
