Norbert Gleicher, MD, FACOG, FACS, is an infertility specialist specializing in autoimmune diseases at the Center for Human Reproduction in the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City.
Dr. Gleicher grew up in Vienna, Austria, and completed his medical studies at the Medical University of Vienna. After preclinical years, he graduated and completed an internship at the Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine in Israel. He then moved to New York City for a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, and a fellowship in reproductive immunology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. As chief resident, he was awarded the Dr. Solomon Silver Award in Clinical Medicine.
Upon graduation, Dr. Gleicher was appointed to the medical school faculty of Mount Sinai School of Medicine as an assistant professor in the department as Head of the Division of Reproductive Immunology.
Two years later, he moved to Chicago as Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Immunology/Microbiology at Rush Medical College. He held these positions for 10 years until his resignation when he began focusing on the Center for Human Reproduction, which he founded in 1981.
Since 1990, Dr. Gleicher has held a variety of academic professorial appointments at Chicago Medical School, New York University School of Medicine, and Yale University School of Medicine. Since 1999, he has been President, Medical Director, and chief scientist of the Center for Human Reproduction and President of the not-for-profit Foundation for Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Gleicher has published hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific papers, abstracts, and book chapters in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Gleicher is a distinguished expert in the field of reproductive medicine and endocrinology, holding multiple editorial board memberships in leading journals. He serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, RBMOnline, the Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, Endocrine, the Journal of Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology, the Journal of Translational Medicine, Clinical and Translational Medicine, and The Journal of IVF-Worldwide. With extensive experience in both clinical practice and research, Dr. Gleicher has made significant contributions to advancing the understanding of reproductive health and endocrinology. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology.
While in Chicago, Chicago Magazine repeatedly listed him among the “Best Physicians” in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Since his return to New York City, he was repeatedly one of only a handful of reproductive endocrinologists listed by the New York Times Magazine on its “Super Doctors” list.

Dr. Gleicher was nearly 30 minutes late to our consultation, but that's not necessarily anything new when it comes to doctors' offices. I was a little surprised that he went through our entire intake questionnaire with us, despite having sent an initial report based off of it, but appreciated his thoroughness and willingness not to rush us. He spent over an hour on the consult. He also was unwilling to jump to conclusions about our diagnosis, and asked for multiple additional tests, further demonstrating his commitment to careful, individualized care.

CHR is the best and the only reason why I am pregnant!! Before coming to the Center for Human Reproduction, my husband and I had been to two fertility clinics in NJ. We did a total of 6 IUIs, two completely failed IVF cycles including one failed fresh transfer. From those clinics we were diagnosed with male factor infertility. But the reason why the cycles were failing came down to my egg quality. The doctors at these clinics told us an array of heartbreaking things, for example, that probably one of us has a genetic disorder that hasn’t been discovered and we can try again, changing absolutely nothing and if it did not work, we wouldn’t be able to have children of our own. What those doctors really meant was that they had no idea how to diagnose me, no less how to treat me. My mother and sister decided to do some research after my failed cycle and came across CHR’s website and it was life changing! I sent CHR all my medical records for the second opinion program and within a week I received a report from Dr. Gleicher - diagnosing me with lean PCOS. I couldn’t believe that after a year and a half, at two major fertility clinics in NJ, I sent my records to CHR and I had a real diagnosis. I couldn’t have been more thrilled. I set up a consultation with Dr. Gleicher as soon as I could so I could get started at their office. I also have Lupus Nephritis SLE and Dr. Gleicher was very knowledgeable about that condition and what risks it poses to pregnancy. Dr. Gleicher was great during the consultation going over everything and wanted me to start a specific dosage of DHEA. I will never forget that before hanging up from our virtual call Dr. Gleicher said, “Don’t worry, you’ll be fine.” After all the failed treatments, I couldn’t believe a doctor was telling me not to worry. I breathed a sigh of relief - I knew he was confident in my treatment and therefore I was confident in him. After six weeks of DHEA I was ready for my IVF cycle. During the monitoring I mostly saw Dr. Barad. He is such a caring doctor who treats his patients with dignity. I felt that he truly took into account how difficult having to go through infertility is and it showed. He was patient and always took his time for my questions or to just explain where I was in the process. I was finally ready for my egg retrieval. Now in the past, my embryos did not make it to freeze so I was left with none. The egg retrieval results at CHR were beyond my expectation. I had 12 mature eggs, two of them were put in for a fresh transfer and four made it to five day blastocysts to freeze!! Unfortunately the fresh transfer did not work but I met with Dr. Gleicher and he and my nurse were very caring and supportive throughout that time. Next month I went in for a frozen transfer and I am so happy to say I am pregnant with twins! I cannot thank Dr. Gleicher enough for my diagnosis and Dr. Barad for his care! I graduated from CHR a little over a month ago and what I realized is that CHR is truly a step above the rest in terms of doctors. Not only did they diagnose me, treat me, they gave me my dream of becoming pregnant! I believe with all my heart the reason I am pregnant is because of CHR. Dr. Gleicher and Dr. Barad have the knowledge to be successful as well as the compassion to make the patients feel comfortable. The office as a whole is truly amazing! And it goes beyond the doctors. The nurses were all wonderful, Huina was the nurse assigned to me and she was great. The front desk staff were always welcoming and nice. I felt like everyone there was really rooting for me and that means so much when you are going through something this difficult. I am so thrilled to have graduated and on my way but I was sad to leave CHR and all the amazing people there! Even after graduating from CHR I had some issues with my blood work at my regular OB and reached out to Huina who got me in touch with Dr. Barad. Although I was no longer a patient there he helped me make sense of the issues that were going on with me. Truly, the doctors, nurses and all of the staff are such blessings! I cannot wait to meet my twin girls this spring!!

I think from CA to NYC there is no better doctor than Dr Gleicher. The experience and knowledge he has is out of this world. I have learned so much about my own body and I am hopeful that he will give me my miracle child.
