David J. Malis, MD, FACS, FAAP, is a skilled otolaryngologist on the team at Family ENT & Audiology. He provides collaborative and innovative care to patients of all ages throughout Melbourne, Florida.
After receiving his undergraduate training from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Dr. Malis earned his medical doctorate from The Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He then entered active duty in the U.S. Army and received his residency training in Otolaryngology at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas; this was followed by Fellowship training in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Children’s Hospital & Health Center in San Diego, California.
Dr. Malis served over 15 years on active duty in the U.S. Army, culminating in his last duty assignment as Chief, Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery Service at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Throughout his military career, Dr. Malis had the honor of providing medical care to active duty service members and their families, from infants to military retirees. Dr. Malis is proud to have been able to serve and provide for the Otolaryngological needs of the entire military “family” and of all branches of military service.
Dr. Malis is Board Certified in Otolaryngology and is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Additionally, he is an active member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology (ASPO), the Society of Ear, Nose, Throat Advances in Children (SENTAC), and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery (AAOHNS).
As Brevard and Indian River County’s only Fellowship-trained Pediatric Otolaryngologist, Dr. Malis is here to meet all of your family’s ear, nose, and throat needs...“from 2 to 102.”
I have been a practicing physician since 2007, including seven years at the University of Florida as an assistant professor, where I specialized in the removal of cancerous and non-cancerous tumors from the head and neck, which comprised approximately 70% of my practice. The remaining 30% was dedicated to general Ear, Nose, and Throat cases, encompassing allergies, sinus issues, thyroid and skin diseases, as well as ear drainage, hoarseness, and other conditions. I have co-authored 25 publications in the field of Head and Neck Oncology.
In 2014, I joined the Orlando Health UF Cancer Center to bring university-level expertise to the Orlando area. After four years, I transitioned to private practice to further refine my Ear, Nose, and Throat skills and to adopt a more comprehensive approach to patient care. This move allows me to practice outside of a corporate setting, thereby reducing hospital-associated costs, facilitating independent decision-making, and eliminating administrative and bookkeeping burdens. Ultimately, this approach enhances the quality of care I provide, ensuring a truly patient-centered experience.
In addition to my clinical work, I have been teaching since 2008 and have developed a unique teaching style that challenges young minds. Currently, I serve as a preceptor for Nova Southeastern University PA School, the University of South Florida College of Nursing (NP), UCF College of Medicine, and Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine.
“Other than having to wait 30 minutes in the lobby for appointment, it was a great experience. Always very helpful and caring. The gals at the front desk are terrific and outstanding!”
