Dr. Crater has been in clinical practice since 2003. He was raised in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey and Richmond, Virginia. He is the youngest of seven children. He graduated from Princeton University and the University of Virginia School Of Medicine, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his dermatology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston under the direction of Dr. Pearon Lang, past president of the American College of Mohs Surgery; Dr. Bruce Thiers, past editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology; and Dr. John Maize, Director of the Maize Center of Dermatopathology.
Dr. Crater joined Associates in Dermatology in 2008 after five years of private practice in South Carolina. He was certified by the American Board of Dermatology in 2003, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Florida Academy of Dermatology. He has particular interest in geriatric dermatology and cutaneous surgery.
Dr. Crater employs the full range of treatments for skin cancer in seniors. Treatment can range from a two minute treatment with simple cauterization and scraping away a superficial cancer, to topical medications for superficial cancers, to simple excision for deeper lesions. Dr. Crater takes into account patient age, patient preference, the size, depth and location of the tumor, and other factors when helping a patient choose a skin cancer treatment. Not every patient needs aggressive surgery to treat their skin cancer.
In his spare time, Dr. Crater serves on the Sanibel City Council and volunteers as a guide at the Revs Institute in Naples. He also enjoys bicycling, skiing, and antique cars. He has three children, and his wife Dana Crater, M.D. is a pediatrician in Ft. Myers. Dr. Crater and his wife support medical missionaries in Togo, West Africa. Dr. Gloster comes to Associates in Dermatology from the University of Cincinnati where he was a Professor of Dermatology and Director of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology. Dr. Gloster’s primary areas of expertise are cutaneous oncology, Mohs Micrographic Surgery, and reconstruction. Dr. Gloster is board certified in Dermatology and Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery.
