Martin (Mike) Nuñez, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist at Skin Care Specialists with locations in Mesa and Scottsdale, Arizona. While he enjoys all aspects of dermatology, Dr. Nuñez focuses on skin cancer surveillance, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.
Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Nuñez had a diverse career background prior to becoming a doctor. He is an Army veteran and served as a squad leader while in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition to his military service, he has worked in the business sector as a sales manager and consultant.
Whether in the Army, the board room, or in patient care, Dr. Nuñez has found that the most important factor in helping people is building great relationships. Building those relationships is what initially drew him to the medical field and what keeps him excited about being a dermatologist.
Dr. Nuñez received two bachelor’s degrees, one in liberal arts and one in biology, from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. During his undergraduate training, he made the dean’s list and president’s list, as well as the Phi Beta Kappa honors society, while also completing research in glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
After his undergraduate training, Dr. Nuñez completed medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Chicago. Dr. Nuñez finished near the top of his class, was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society, and was nominated for the Gold Humanism Society.
After medical school, he completed a year of general medicine training at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis and then completed a 3-year dermatology residency at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.
In his spare time, Dr. Nuñez enjoys getting outside for a hike or run, biking, or just relaxing. He is an avid sports fan, and while his childhood alliance is mostly to Chicago sports teams, he loves catching as many Arizona sporting events as he can.
“I arrived about 20 minutes early and my appointment was right on time. Dr.Nunez found many suspicious small growths on my skin and took samples of them. I expect to hear about what Dr. Nunez found in the near future.”
