After graduation, Dr. Leon-Guerrero completed a general practice residency at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Shivani Barto, originally from upstate New York, completed her Bachelor of Science degree at the University at Buffalo before earning her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the esteemed University of Michigan. Continuing a family tradition, Dr. Barto's father, sister, and husband are also proud alumni of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Her husband's service in the US Navy has led them on a journey from Texas to Japan and now to Bethesda, MD, where they plan to stay.

He then returned to Baltimore to complete his training in endodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he earned a Masters degree in Dental Biomedical Sciences and a certificate in Endodontics.
