Relationships are integral to our existence as human beings. We are not islands. Life can be challenging, and events and other life circumstances can leave us feeling vulnerable and alone. A therapist can be a nonjudgmental and empathetic ear with which people can gain self-knowledge, self-confidence, and resilience. When you work with me, you will have a safe space to experience the emotions needed and to identify any deficits and strengths that can help shape your goals. Together, we can help you figure out how to participate and thrive in life despite the things that are holding you back.
I decided to become a mental health counselor after almost a decade as an occupational therapist. I recognized that many of the comorbid conditions accompanying physical dysfunction also had a psychosocial component.

Do you find yourself stuck in negative cycles? Perhaps you are trying to build or rebuild a relationship with your child, but the more you reach out, the more you feel them pulling away. You may be struggling with trauma of your own, falling back into familiar patterns of anxiety, grief, body-image struggles, or depression. Addiction may be tied to these struggles. You know addiction only makes things worse, and you want to change, but you need someone to support you without judgment – someone who can look past your addiction and see you. Someone to help you work through addiction and the other problems you are facing.
You’re worthy of love and understanding. I take a person centered “support without judgment” approach to therapy, often utilizing Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Trauma Focused CBT. I want to help you find lasting positive change.
Not living the life you wanted or expected? Perhaps you’re struggling with familial relationships, having trouble connecting to your child(ren), or feeling disconnected from a partner or spouse. Perhaps, past relationships or old trauma is negatively impacting your current day-to-day life. You work hard to do the right things, but you still feel stuck. Maybe your child is the one who seems stuck, and you don’t know how to help him/her process their emotions – especially when you’re wrestling with emotions of your own. You want someone to help you find a better way forward. I want you to feel understood. You’re the expert on yourself, your family, and your relationships. In our first session, we will look at your goals and identify next steps. Each following session, you will drive the conversation. We will tie your current concerns back to your original goals and find positive ways for you to move forward.
Have you been struggling lately? Perhaps you’ve encountered some depression or anxiety. It could be your child who is struggling, and it feels like nothing you are doing is working. Perhaps you’ve considered counseling or have tried therapy in the past but you don’t want to have someone try to change everything about you.I don’t want you to feel like you are coming to a doctor’s office. Here you set your goals. I typically use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques in sessions. I want to help you learn how to align your behaviors to reflect your values.

“I’m very thankful that I found Crosswinds and was able to begin meeting with Lynn. I had quite a bit of history to unpack, but Lynn has been diligent in helping guide me through it all and get to a healthier place mentally, and giving me tools/strategies to use to help keep me there. We’re all a work in progress, but I’m thankful for the role that counseling has played in my life, and also thankful to be able to see/recognize the positive changes in me.”

You know all relationships and all families have their struggles – it’s just that sometimes your relationships seem extra chaotic. You don’t necessarily want a “normal” life or one that looks like everyone else’s, but you do need a life of your own. You want to understand yourself and your place in the world. You want to have the best relationships with your loved ones as possible – even if it sometimes seems like you’re from different planets. You want to work through your current struggles and build a solid foundation so that when life throws something new at you (and it always will), you know you are ready.
In your first session, we will get to know each other and address any immediate concerns. We’ll then define your goals. In following sessions, we will manage your day-to-day challenges and stressors while working on your big-picture goals. I often utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Solutions-Focused Therapy.
