Dr. Fernandes graduated from Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil, as one of the top ten students in her class. After completion of her research assignment in rheumatology at the University of Pennsylvania, she fulfilled a three-year residency in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She relocated to the Houston area in 1997 to attend a cardiology fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine that she completed in June 2000. Immediately after that fellowship, she continued her training in interventional cardiology at The Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center. This fellowship was completed in June 2001.
