Christina received her Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She then went on to receive her Doctorate of Audiology from Western Michigan University. She specializes in diagnostic testing and fitting and dispensing hearing aids, in adults. She has furthered interests in vestibular assessment and treatment, and tinnitus. Christina is licensed to practice in Texas and Illinois.
Lauren received her Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language and Hearing Sciences and her Doctorate of Audiology Degree from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She specializes in diagnostic testing, fitting and dispensing hearing aids in adults, and hearing protection. Lauren is licensed in Texas and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Lauren is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (F-AAA).
Brook is a native of Lafayette, LA. She recieved her Maters of Arts in Audiology from Louisiana State University. Her areas of interest include hearing protection and fitting and dispensing hearing aids in adults. Brook is licensed in Texas, and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Brook is a fellow of the American Acamdemy of Audiology (F-AAA).
Dr. Kristen Keener, AuD is an expert Audiologist who specializes in the treatment of tinnitus and other sound sensitivity disorders at the IlluminEar Tinnitus & Audiology Center in Austin, Texas. Trusted and valued by all of her patients, Dr. Keener has over eighteen years of experience treating patients with such serious sound sensitivities as hyperacusis and misophonia across Texas, including Austin.
Dr. Keener’s Education and Experience
Dr. Keener earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Indiana University in 1994. Two years later, she received her Master’s Degree in Audiology from Purdue University and went on to gain her Doctorate in Audiology from A.T. Still University in 2007. Dr. Keener’s training focused on a wide field of expertise, including such categories as assessing hearing loss, conserving hearing ability and providing treatment for a number of hearing disorders.
As a member of a number of professional Audiological Associations, Dr. Keener has become a valued member of her professional community over her nearly two-decade long career. Just a few of her industry associations include being a member of the Texas Academy of Audiology, the Academy of Doctors of Audiology and the American Academy of Audiology, among others. Dr. Keener is also privileged to be one of the few Audiologists in the entire country to be trained in Tinnitus Retraining Therapy. This relatively new method of treating Tinnitus has shown a success rate of more than 80%, and Dr. Keener received her training directly from the neuroscientist who developed the therapy.
Her Commitment to Community Involvement
In addition to her professional credentials, Dr. Keener is also committed to educating patients and fellow healthcare providers about the importance of hearing and the factors that can contribute to hearing loss. To better serve her community of Austin, Texas, Dr. Keener founded the IlluminEar Tinnitus & Audiology Center in 2014. IlluminEar is the only diagnostic and rehabilitative Audiology practice in Austin that specializes in such debilitating conditions as tinnitus, as well as sound sensitivity disorders.
Dr. Candace Utranusorn is an Audiologist who specializes in hearing healthcare and tinnitus treatment. She gained experience working in a variety of different clinical settings throughout her educational training.
Dr. Utranusorn’s love of music and passion for helping others initially drew her to a career in Audiology. Creating individualized treatment plans is one of her favorite aspects of being an Audiologist. Her primary focus is to provide the best care to every patient.
Dr. Utranusorn’s Education and Experience
Dr. Utranusorn earned her Doctorate of Audiology from the University of Texas at Austin and her Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders from Texas State University. She completed her residency year at the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. She completed additional training for Tinnitus Retraining Therapy from Dr. Pawel Jastreboff, the neuroscientist who created the treatment.
She is well versed in all major hearing aid manufacturers' technology. She is a member of the American Tinnitus Association, Texas Academy of Audiology, American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
Dr. Utranusorn is excited to be joining the IlluminEar team and meeting all of the wonderful patients here. She is originally from Grand Forks, North Dakota and loves living in Austin, Texas. Outside of the clinic, she loves traveling, golfing and spending time with her family. Dr. Utranusorn and her husband Matt are expecting their first child and look forward to growing their family soon.
Dr. Matthew Randal, Au.D., is an audiologist specializing in the treatment of bothersome tinnitus at IlluminEar Tinnitus and Audiology Center in Austin, Texas. Matthew is a new audiologist with primary experience identifying and treating audiological disorders such as hearing loss, sound sensitivity, and tinnitus. Prior to entering the field as a practitioner, Matthew was a patient with hearing loss and tinnitus.
His experiences as a patient inspired him to become an audiologist with the primary goal of improving care for patients suffering from tinnitus. He has volunteered with the American Tinnitus Association for several years in an effort to champion the mission of bettering the understanding and treatment of tinnitus for millions nationwide.
Dr. Randal's Experience and Education
Dr. Randal holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at San Antonio. He later earned a Doctorate of Audiology from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Randal completed his clinical externship at the Olin E. Teague Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Temple, Texas where he received intensive training in audiovestibular assessment and treatment including vestibular diagnostics and rehabilitation, cochlear implants and other implantable aids, and tinnitus management.
As an individual with chronic tinnitus and as a previous patient, Dr. Randal has a uniquely informed perspective influencing his approach to patient care particularly for those suffering from tinnitus. He is excited to return to Austin to serve his fellow Texans as a member of the IlluminEar team.
When not with patients, Dr. Randal enjoys reading, cycling, and spending time with his beloved cat, Lily. If you find him at a local pizza joint or coffee shop, please say hello!
